The word technology is also defined as advancement in human creation which can significantly affect human as well as other species in their adaptation and control with their natural environment. You have it right, when hearing the word technology, the first thing the rushes into my brain would be gadgets such as cellphones, laptops and other sorts of things. We use many machines in our day to day life like washing machine, fridge, Tv, cell phone, computer and many devices which are the result of technology. When the knowledge of science is applied for our use or for our advantage then I think it is technology.
