In big towns and cities, people live isolated in flats. So the chances of robbery and theft will be more if strangers are allowed everywhere without any check. Nowadays, the problem of terrorism also makes people wary of strangers. Hence, many places prohibit the entry of strangers. We don't have any security system for our apartment. But I think it is very necessary. What do you think? How can we secure our life in big cities?

Now, people always can hardly things about their neighbors. Also, it is hard for us to tell whether the strangers are the neighbors or not. Therefore, if we can confirm the strangers' identity before they step in the community, the crime rate may be lower compared to the community without prohibiting the entry of strangers.

I have heard that a student was murdered in her dorm room, and this news scared me for a long time. I can hardly imagine how the girl was killed in school. Therefore, I am very content with my school's strick inspection when students enter the dormitorys, although I have complained about it before.

I live in a big city; and my building does not have a security system.. But I feel as safe as I would in a small town.. Why? The location is one.. I live in a nice area; and I spent lots of time just observing the area, the people that live here and the people that come and go.. I have also met my neighbors; and through my own judgement weeded out the bad ones.. The ones that I watch out for.. And honestly living in a locked buliding is only as safe as the residents allow it to be.. If you have a neighbor that makes extra sets of keys for friends, or has a lot of traffic coming and going; there is always a greater risk of being robbed.. If someone really wants to rob you more then likely they have either been in your place or someone else that told them about what you have.. Its no different then grand theif auto.. With all of the techological advances especially in the last five years the crime rate should be down not as many cars stolen.. Because of alarms, GPS systems etc etc.. But it still happens.. If someone really wants what you have they will find a way.. Its sad to say and I do not wish it on anyone but it happens.. All you can really do is limit the amount of traffic in your own home.. If you are buying new things for your place; try to bring the stuff in when most of your neighbors are gone or sleeping.. and when you go to throw out the big box tear it up and put it in something... You leave the box whole; everyone is going to see that someone there got a new this or that.. The less people know the better.. Keep your front door LOCKED at all TIMES!! If your door is locked then there is no question on if the person broke in or you invited that person in.. When you leave lock all your windows; patio doors, etc.. Shut all blinds, curtains etc.. What they cant see they cant want.. I also voice to the people that come into my home what would happen to a robber if they attempt to do anything to my boys or me.. I have already caught a robber once at my aunts house.. Its the truth I swear it.. And well I will be better prepared this time.. I didnt have anything in my hands before.. This time I have a couple choice weapons.. A little crazy never hurt anyone just scares them off.. lol

You have good system. we have many robbers at our place these days. There are many chain snatchers as well. Last week some robbers took away the battery from the motor bike and also some petrol the bike is safely kept in the compound but the robbers climbed the gate and came inside . This is really sad as most of the parts are taken from my tenants bike.

Yes, I also live isolated in my flat and it worries me. People can only get into the building by ringing the bell, which requires people to say who they are, so they can be let in. I feel confident about that system and that control seems to have prevented strangers from coming into our building.

Hi, You are right. When the door is knocked we should ask who is there before opening the door. We should not open the door directly. Thank you for the response.

Hi! We just have to be alert always and never trust strangers. They are everywhere, even in villages and condominiums. When we go out it is best not to bring valuables, credit cards and lots of money. I also advice my family not to wear expensive jewelries as this is a come on to thieves. In our houses i think it is best to have a burglar alarm. This can drive away burglars and can call attention to neighbors or authorities. As much as possible stay at home during nighttime.

Hi friend, yes, this kind of prohibition is really necessary to avoid lot of unwanted issues. We must be very careful with unknown strangers, never believe or share anything with an unknown person

In my opinion, there are aspects that necessary to be done on this issues. Firstly, We should improve people's awareness of protecting ourselves.Do not trust the strangers easily. and do not let the strangers too easy to enter your building or community. Secondly, Some physical measures should be used to strict the entry of the strangers, for example: to establish a electrical security system, and security guards should patrol around frequently. and another thing that deserves more words is the punishment for these criminals should be heavy enough.

Hi, You are right. We should not trust strangers easily. best security system is necessary to protect ourselves from the danger of criminals. But some people can not afford costly security system. So we should be careful while dealing with strangers. Thank you for the response.

I'm very lucky in that I live in a building that has very good security. Nobody can get in unless they are "buzzed" in by the person in that apartment. We also have a security guard from 8pm-8am. I feel very safe here.

You are right roshigo we all fear for our own security now a days...even buildings with security system are not safe! one of my family member got robbed...she was in the second floor and they climb the balcony and broke a window to get in! the only way to be secure is to have good locks in your windows and doors and make as difficult as you can to deter any one coming in...more than that what else can we do? I keep my phone close to me at all times and I Am as safe as I could be! on the other hand I refuse to be paranoid I have a life to live and no one is going to keep me from it.

Yes life today have become very risky for those who are staying in their own house it may be bungalow or flat. We don't know or we cannot imagine who is the good person and who is robber, hence any stranger that happen to stand in front of our house or flat or enter the building we look them with doubt. Now a days most of the apartment and flats even houses install the Video Camera and other security system as safety measure

unfortuntly you are right, because of the rising crime and the threat of terrorism we are more fearful of strangers this is sad but a sad fact of life. I think that the only thing we can do is report and suspiciuos activites to the police and secure you houses as best as you can. There isnt a lot you can do but just because a stranger is in town it doest mean he is a terrorist or criminal.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u are absolutely right, security checks have to beef up so that we can somewhat avoid terrorist attacks to happen frequently. The security system has to be tightened at all places where strangers should not be allowed to enter a locality unless and until a valid identity proof is not produced by them. This should be implemented everywhere. What say?

it better now that there is lot of security now. it is very important to have security and you must tell the society members the the importance of security. At my home also there is not much security and once the restaurant is done, I want to put CCTV. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

people are scared of strangers even where i come from. they erect tall walls around their duplexes for these. it is sometimes scary when you find people living in uncompleted buildings and those buildings are near your residence.

Hi yes i agree now a days we are not safe in any place. The flats should definitely have the security system. Even after having the security system many places are not safe too. But we can lessen the chances if we have the security. Terrorism is another part they may attack any time. so we are not in safe hands either. we need to protect ourselves.
