Chicharon is pork crackling, sisig is marinated, boiled, grilled and fried pig face (ears, cheeks and snout)It is a local Kapampangan dish in the Philippines. So, this afternoon my husband and I decided to have dinner at Mang Inasal. He ordered Sisig, his favorite Filipino dish. When the food was served we were so surprised! It wasn't pork sizzling sisig at all, instead, it was pork crackling sisig! Why did they used pork cracklings as extenders?? Have you ever experienced this at Mang Inasal?

Oh yes! I don't really eat sisig but I love sisig from Sisig Hooray. And I agree that when you eat at Mang Inasal, you should go for their best sellers, the chicken inasal. Don't even bother ordering even the desserts. It's not worth it.

We actually didn't order chicharon sisig. The sisig that was served to us has chicharon in it. It had a lot of Chicharon that it looked and tasted like Chicharon sisig, not the usual pork sisig that we expected.

I've always thought these came from the Visayan region. They always made great tasting sisig there. I have tried sisig in Pampanga, it doesn't compare at all. But well..
Anyhow, if you were wondering why there was a chicharon sisig, I wondered at tonight's dinner why there was Crispy Dinuguan. It was the same dinuguan but instead of the usual ingredients, they used chicharon as well. It was okay at first, then it becomes weird after a while when the chicharon would be soggy from the sauce and it would be tough to chew. I think it's the same with the sisig.
I guess they just wanted to be unique. They want to innovate and hope that it would be great for the masses. I guess there are times when traditional is always best.
Have a great mylot experience ahead!

That is odd. I haven't tried their pork sizzling sisig there because even though I know they already have varied dishes, I still prefer the taste of their chicken recipe. We have a local restaurant here in my hometown which is best known for having the best sizzling pork sisig in town but I have yet to try it. I always thought that Gerry's Grill is the place to go for great tasting sizzling sisig.

Oh that's a nice suggestion, my husband and I haven't tried Gerry's Grill sizzling sisig. Whenever we eat at Gerry's we order seafood dish.

im sorry that they didnt use the usual ingredients. maybe the restaurant did that in a way not to use so much money. but if we see things clear is like they are fooling the clients. cause the clients expect something and then is a different thing. that happened to me once. me and my family went to a restaurant and my stepfather ordered octopus and then they gave something with tentacles but wasnt octopus. it was other fish. i guess that sometimes restaurants take something cheaper and cook something else. like instead of duck some people put turkey because is cheaper.

That funny but annoying as well. And oh... you just made me want pork sisig now. I haven't eaten mang inasal sisig yet but I'm surprise if they do that co's it happens to some orders I have with them. They did make the price cheap and so is the food. hahaha. You will never get satisfied of your food unless it's the big chicken inasal with unlimited rice, that's the best with them.

Haven't tried ordering it from Mang Inasal.
But I know some resto use chicharon instead of the pig head parts for sisig.
Maybe because it is easier to use the chicharon than the head parts- it's a bit laborious to prepare the head parts for sisig, so maybe that's the reason why they prepare to use the chicharon.

Hi Bell, we're at Mang Inasal last night but as usual, we ordered Pecho. I have not really tried their sisig but I do know that they really used chicharon as extenders. In fact, I've noticed that most sisig stand/store do use chicharon as extenders. Well, I really did not thought it to be an extender, but an ingredient.

Mang Inasal is known for grilled chicken so Thats what I visit them for, I also did noticed the extenders on their sisig thats why I stck with the chicken which s huge and freshly grilled. do love their chicken but I am frustrated with the lack of gravy but I know their selling point is that their chicken is tasty without sauce but its not the taste that i wanted in the gravy, the texture but still enjoy their chicken for its size. When t comes to sisig, Barrio Fiesta does the job well.

I haven't tried Mang Inasal's version of sisig, I would always get their grilled chicken. I tried their other food like puto at dinuguan and palabok but I am disappointed with the serving. Our homemade version of sisig use tokwa as extender since everyone in the family isn't really thrilled to eat some parts of a pork's face, so my mom mixed in some pork choice cuts which she diced and some fried tofu.
