Singapore is considered the cleanest nation in Asia besides introducing Paypal of course. I visited Singapore years ago and I definitely agree. The place is clean and one cannot see any trash in the streets. Everything is organized too. The buildings are numerous and there are many condominiums and shopping centers. The common people live in condominiums. The wall of the buildings are made of bricks,so, definitely they are durable. I noticed too that there were many tourists from all over the world. There are many beautiful places too like Sentosa, Jurong Park, Raffles, etc. In Jurong Park, they teach birds how to talk. It is very interesting. Have you been to a place wherein you have seen something new to you and have been impressed ?

That is exactly right, Singapore government and its people had done a marvelous job keeping their country in such a state of tidiness, it is at the top spot in the list of cleanest and safetest city /country in the world, very impressive record for a country that has no natural resources at all but only limited acre of land, with only skillful human capital and efficiently run government progressive policy, Singapore manage to beat all its bigger neighbors in term of nation developement and urban advancement, to further uplift their people toward greater wealth and higher standard of living compare to its neighbors in the region. After half century of independence from colonialism and kick out from Malaya Federation, its has wasted no time to develop itself into a modern nation and work hard to achieve its goal. Singapore is like a thriving little dragon but able to achieve big goal for itself despite all the adversity it face. Cool!

I visited lovely Singapore in 1994 twice and in 2000. I believe it might be the cleanest place in Asia. It is a wonderful destination for someone's first visit to South East Asia. Everything is very well ordered and plenty of rules are in place. I especially liked going to the beach at Sensota. Raffles Hotel I walked around a little because it it is such a beautiful city. I was impressed with Singapore's splendid looking national park. There I saw many monkeys but it could be a huge fine of 10,000 dollars to feed one. I recommend a traveler to there reads up on Singapore's laws and rules.

Yes, I have been to Singapore a number of times, very beautiful impressive city. Clean, well-laidout, and desciplined. There are a number of places of attraction, parks, etc. I am very impressed with the taxi service there, very punctual, exact on the timing. That makes it very convenient and comfortable for visitors.

Yes, it's really great to be in Singapore and I love the place simply because the one who holds my heart works there, so I frequent the country. However, I've come to notice that though their country is beautiful, most of the people come home very late and are very tired. I would notice parks and places are not really visited by the locals - more of the tourists. I guess they work too much hehe.. and they don't enjoy their country as much.
Yeah, it's a nice, clean and very safe country. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

My first foreign trip was to Singapore and obviously it had all the trimmings of a 'foreign trip' It was the Christmas season when we landed there. The place was beautifully decorated with 'Santas' all over. There was fantastic music in all the Malls. I was visiting Malls for the first time. We visited all the places that Singapore is well known for and for Indians it was the Serangoon Street where one could find a lot of Indians and also a place where there are discounted shops.
Singapore was just the beginning. Today I can proudly say that I have visited several foreign countries and have become a veteran traveller.

Yes. There are tell tale signs of Western culture there. I was quite impressed with its cleanliness, discipline and most importantly their respect for human beings. There the traffic will wait for people to pass unlike here in India.

Hi edvc77,
Yes Singapore is indeed a very clean and green city except that it is always so warm and humid. However there's air conditioning everywhere even in taxis, buses and MRT so it's really quite bearable. Anyway for those of you who have never heard of or visited Singapore before you should make it a point to go as you'll not be disappointed. Although it's a small island there's enough to keep a tourist occupied for a day or two. If you love shopping and food then all the more reason to visit this sunny island.

We lived in Singapore for a year some 30+ years ago. I'm glad that it's still clean. When we were there, they had chain gangs that swept the streets. I thought that was neat because they were using criminals to do something that needed doing and saving money, rather than coddling them in a jail and paying for them.

I have heard and read nothing but wonderful things about Singapore. It has really made me want to go.
However, what is the government like? is it oppressive? Have there been problems between different sects and religions? I thought that I have also read that but I can not be entirely sure.
I have been to many places that I have loved and have been impressed with some things while not impressed with other things.I have not yet been anywhere that seems to have all the attributes that Singapore has.
I am going on my first cruise in February and will be going to the Eastern Caribbean. That will be new to me and maybe I will be very impressed. I hope so!
But more than anything, I now want to get to Singapore and see if I agree with all the things that I have read and heard about it.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well glad to know that u have been to the most cleanest nation in Asia. It was great to know about this feat of Singapore, although i have never been to this nation but i have always heard praises about this place and how every thing is neatly maintained. Besides the hospitality of the people there is great which makes it a must visit place among the tourists.
What say?

Singapore is one of the cleanest city in Asia. They have tons of rules, for example you can't chew gum. You won't find gum there, because they don't want gum to stuck everywhere in public places. Cars, you can't have car more than a certain years old (I don't remember the number), this is to protect against polution.
Singapore is only a small island. They don't have natural resources. Therefore the government exposed them to tourism to attract $$. In order to attract tourism, they really pay attention to the cleanliness of the city. Lots of shopping, to attract tourism also. Singapore is one of the Asian countries where people can speak English fluently. This is a big advantage, compare to other Asian countries. You can say Japan is one of the advance country in Asia. Same as South Korea. But if you go there, you hardly find somebody who can speak English fluently, even though they are one of the most powerful countries. I will not go to Japan or Korea on my own without a tour. I have bad experience while visiting Korea and Japan. It's good country, clean as well, amazing things to learn especially Japan, but too bad, so difficult to communicate.
