Should I? It's very tempting!

Some of you may have seen that I have recently lost two of my dogs without a trace. We suspect someone has been involved in their disappearance, either stealing or killing them and disposing of the bodies. I have four remaining dogs. They are all family, as were the two who have disappeared.
The sister of my youngest dog lives in a nearby village now, and she has puppies at the moment. Her owner has disposed of most of the litter, but has two remaining for which he is seeking homes.
Should I take one?
Adding one more dog to my family would not make a difference to our lives as we're used to having more, but if I am honest I would not even consider taking on an extra one were it not for the fact that it's family. I've lost my oldest generation with one of the missing dogs, so could add a new generation.
Is it fair to take on a dog when there is someone out there who has potentially done harm to my little pack?

I think if you really love dogs, it should not stop you from getting a new one. But maybe this time, you need to take precautionary measures on where your dogs are placed at night.

I see! Those guys who took your dogs really had the guts to do it in broad daylight!

Even though you don't take on the dog, your four remaining dogs are still in danger .The crux of the matter is that you ought to find a way to prevent your dogs from being lost once again.

If there a puppy without a home , then take him . But if you fear for his safety then let him go.Follow your gut feeling Can't the local police investigate the disappearance of the dogs? I know it sounds a little silly but if it is foul play , the local Cops should know about it.

Over here Pet owners make sure Everyone knows about a missing dog. They post pictures and I assume these days go on Facebook. In some families the dog is more loved than the kids.

Until you find out what happened to your dogs I would not get any more. And being as they roam free you have no way of controlling where they go and what happens to them. I understand that you have a farm that you can't fence in without a lot of cost, and I don't know anyone that can afford that. Since you can't minimize the danger to your dogs I certainly wouldn't expose more animals to whatever made your two disappear.

I can understand your apprehension on getting another dog after what has happened. I haven't read your previous post so I have no idea regarding the details about the two dogs that disappeared - were they just roaming the streets, is your house fenced, stuff like that. But in any case, if you really love to have another dog, then by all means, take one of those two pups but you might want to consider changing the way you keep them. If you need to keep the new one inside your house while it's still a puppy, do so.

Yes, I can see how you would be severely tempted...as would I. Under the circumstances though, I would wait a while.
How old are the puppies? I guess if they are old enough to leave their mum, you may not be able to expect the owner to hold on to one for you.
I'm still hoping those two come back. I like to think they are off somewhere having an adventure.

It's up to you (obviously) but as others have said here, perhaps you should investigate further re: the disappearances. And keeping the pup as an indoor dog might be an option. If you still want to let your dogs run freely, perhaps fencing off an area for them might be the way to go, rather than letting them go into the woods.

Hiya GM.,
Around here there is a lot of Dog thieving going on far too many and sometimes when I can get to walk with ours outside of here there are people around that you do not know so if you see them acting strangely you go or come back to the house.
If I could I would adopt another Dog as this one we have needs one with him as such.
Space is my big big problem so although I see the Dog every Day that I would like to adopt I know I really cannot do it because such a small space for another big Dog is not possible they both would live in cramped conditions.
Very sorry about what has happened to your Dogs we have had Dogs around here being poisoned as well.
My Dog drank some water out of a Puddle the other Day and came back a bit sick but then they throw so many pesticides down here I am not surprised at all.
Talk about a Dogs life I think a Dogs life is pretty tough now depending where they are living.
If I had that much space I would adopt a Dog yes and I donĀ“t think that there is anything wrong with that.
Maybe the other Dogs will sense who that person is and try to "tell" you. I have a super intelligent Dog and he is like that.
I also had one in England ages ago a Border Collie and he would also sort out the people who do harm to others.
He was one of a kind. Now its like I have him back again except that this one is a German Shepherd name is Sultan and he behaves like one too.xxx

I don't see a problem with bringing a new puppy home. You're already probably keeping an eye on them because of what happened so he should be safe. Has this been a widespread problem in your neighborhood? Or just an isolated incident? People steal dogs all the time. Hopefully they were stolen as opposed to hurt. I read a post on here just yesterday by a women who lost all six of her dogs. I only have one dog I'd be heartbroken if anything happened to her.

We are only allowing the remaining dogs out one at a time now as they are less likely to wander far like that. But they do still wander off and I can't watch them all the time, much though I'd like to. As far as I know, ours have been the only ones who have disappeared lately.
