I have known in my Science lesson that "negative and positive attract each other." This also applies in charging batteries and operating some machineries. However, in regards to relationships and partnerships, do the opposites in regards to attitudes and likes, attract each other?

Opposites do attract. My current boyfriend I are opposites. We were attracted to each other. Sometimes it works well. He used to say it was like we completed each other because we were different. Those differences have caused relationship problems over the years. It makes it really hard at times for us to see the others point of view. Seeing that we have broken up, and gotten back together like four or five times now over a nine year times span and most likely the relationship is going to end in a permanent break up come the New Year, I really would not recommend that opposites make for the best relationships.

edvc, yes sadly that is true. So, we have to think more of the long term rather than our initial attractions.

Yeah opposites attract but when it comes to relationship it means boys attracted to girls. the opposite gender attracts but when it comes to behavior, i do not think this is correct because people normally find a partner who are somewhat like them. it might be an exception in some cases though. the is probability for anything. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

I think opposites really do attract one another. What I think happens is we see something in someone that we don't possess ourselves and see it as attractive. Kind of like something we would like to see in ourselves change and maybe that person can help us change.

mzz, relationships where you are trying to change each other never work out in the long term. I mean one person my feel attracted, and appreciate the other for themself. The other person may not like all the other persons qualities, so they end up continually trying to change the other person. In the end, all you have is heartbreak.

I didn't mean trying to change each other. I was talking about making changes to ourselves for the better.
Seeing qualities that you admire in someone else that you don't posses yourself.
I know trying to change someone else never works, been there, done that.
I was with an opposite for a really long time and he tried making me change who I was to suit him. It did end up in heartbreak but in the 20 years I was with him, I did gain some of the things in my own personality that I admired in the first place from him.
You can also be with someone who is the same as you are, feeling like you're soul mates. Kind of what I have now, so many things the same, but ya know...it kind of gets boring.

I know what you mean. There are some instances that I can sense right away regarding the facts of opposite attracts. Like now the ugly guys can really have a fabulous look girlfriend that is really pretty and sexy. You can't believe how they became to each other. Yeah right it is not about looks but then there are some instances when you see a pretty lady who is arrogant and acts like she is hard to reach person but then you would be surprise that she is having relationship with an ugly guy. In some instances of the attitude it really attracts as well since I have seen and heard the humble person who is having relationship with this arrogant. That is why I totally believe that there are times that opposites attract each other.

when it comes to attitudes and likes, opposites attract each other. curiosity makes that real possible, but the friction involved becomes stronger than the attraction that both sides tend to go separate ways most of the time. if they stayed together, the friction would create a conflict and disagreements. thanks.

Yeah, I have also heard a similar kind of stuff. Oppsite charges attract each other. This law is also applicable in relationships also. I heard that if we take an example itself most of our friends will have atleast one quality which we do not possess. And the researchers say that it is this opposite quality of our friends that have made us to attract towards them. I also have heard that like this many other situations are also there in whatever things we do.

I don't believe this is entirely true. This is just a saying that validates some stuff, like magnet, electricity, etc.. This became popular because movies used it so much. I still think that it's still your choice who you're going to hook up with for the rest of your life. You don't have to look for a short partner if you're tall, or a chinese partner if you have big eyes. It up to who you're attracted to.

No it does not. In fact we choose for what is the same as we are, since this is familiar to us.
