"Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional"

A month and few days more, I will get old again. It's really mandatory, right? We cannot get hold of it. The wrinkles, laugh lines and grey hair will be there as time goes by. I know most members here already have those. ***hugs*** But do you agree that growing up is optional? That no matter how old we are, we still have an option not to act our age. There are kids who act like youngsters, and teeangers who act like grannies. I for one don't act like I am 27. I mostly do things like I'm just a teen or a baby. (???) At home, I do baby talk with my mom and my fiance. And it's so funny, seriously funny. That little voice thingy. At some places, I do that too and people will stare at me expecting there's a little kid around. LOL That is the one thing I cannot remove within myself maybe even when I get older. How about you, dear lotters? Is there any childish thing left in you even though you are so old now? Would be happy to hear your stories.

Hi, ms.Hatley.. I love ice cream too especially when I am craving for it and my fiance will treat me. So, it's free! You like any flavor except vanilla? Why? I mostly love chocolates. wil some nuts and cookies. With an IQ of 140, don't play outside your house, maybe just with your family. Just kidding... But seriously, I agree with you, there's really a child in all of us. ms. Hatley, I may sound like I love life. Even though life has given me so many painful memories. =(

lol. don't call your self so old. that is when you become like 80 years old. lol. until then, you are still young and healthy. be thankful. it's okay to have some childishness in you when you are grown up. i am grown up, but i still do baby things at home with my family. in fact, i am my husband's little baby house infant. lol. he literally babies me. i do that to him too. it's a very nurturing and good feeling. i think young at heart on the inside, means young on the outside.

I don't mean that my age is too old. Hehe. 80 is very old. But like ms. Hatley, who I think is already 86, still possess childish behaviour and loves ice cream too. You're right, young at heart on the inside, means young on the outside. It's so cute to hear that your husband babies you at home. My fiance does that too and yes, he do baby talk too. Let's stay forever young!

Hi adnileb At near 40... Growing up and me I grew back to my kid days and am really having a blast. Until I was ill, I was quite active professionally and did almost everything which suited my job - Teachers are to be composed, mature and when I migrated to the Software Development, the corporate culture did play on me as I needed to go up. Amidst this, I missed what I loved to be. It was a mask that was forced onto me. But then, when I was bed-ridden and then started to recover, I realized that this is not what I wanted my life to be. I wanted to break free and get back to doing things I always loved - play the kid, be the child and do as much as I can to enjoy life. I love the rains, getting wet in them(actually bathing with soap and shampoo during the rains, play in the mud pools). I also love to be stubborn at times just like the kids with my mom, my loving wife, eat out junk food even though that doesnt go with my health... the list is long here I am feeling happy for you reading the way you live as I do firmly believe that as long as you can play that kid in you, you can and will always connect with innocence, peace and find yourself to be more happy than many others. At least that is how I feel when I am the kid

Hi sid.. Near 40? Is it 39? You're too positive that it made you stonger to fulfill something for your life. Other people who became bed-ridden may have discouraged and stay bed-ridden til their last breath. Good thing you have recovered fast. I love reading your response, I can see myself being stubborn too and I did bathe in the rain, yes, along with the soap and shampoo. Being childish is the only way I could escape from life's miseries. I have so much problems to think and I want to get rid of them. That is by being child at heart.

38 No dear, I wasnt this positive a few years back. However today I am despite that illnesses that I carry. Life and its miseries taught me to live it better and fuller. Being childish is not any way to escape but yes, I find it a way to continue on and survive.

38 is still young. Inside or out, I think. I think when you are experiencing the downs of life, you will really think positive. I have noticed that these past few months that I have been struggling hard with my family problem. Actually it will be a year now. Last year was really terrible for me and my mom.

Look, I am older then you and I still think like I am 20. Growing up is a mindset. Look, we all have to become responsible, but that does not mean we have to stop liking everything we have always liked. I still act like a kid and enjoy it very much. People think I am crazy.

Well I for one am never getting old. I think old is a state of mind not years. I can't stop the numbers from getting bigger, and I don't know what it means to act my age. How are you suppose to act at any age, is there a book of instructions somewhere that tells us how we're suppose to act and feel at a certain age. Yes I do believe as adults we are to be responsible for ourselves and our children if we have any, but who says we have to get old. According to the calender I'm 58, just a number, looking forward to another 58, so much fun.

There's no book telling us how to act when we are at the age of 20 or 40 or 58. But some people, who in return are the ones ageing so obviously, tell others, "will you please act your age" like if you're old, act like a granny. You're right, it's just a number adding 1 year after year. It's so much fun being a child and even though how old we are, we still don't mind acting like a child for sometimes.

I love the comparison of Growing Old compared to Growing Up, and yes this does apply to me. I have always been an avid fan of cartoons and would much rather watch a good cartoon than the type of film that is intended for adults. There are several ways in which I am still a child. As I became older it was important to become responsible, but that does not necessarily mean that I should cease to be a child at heart.

Thanks! I do love watching cartoons more too. Last day, we watched Brave on my computer. The story is for bigger kids though but still it’s fun to watch those kinds. Getting old shouldn’t avoid us from doing things due to our young hearts.

Hello beli, hmmm sounds like you are born in December or January...wonder what is it... yeah, like you I am nearing my birthday again and it feels kinda sad cause we can't stop the increasing of age. Yeah, we grow older each and everyday but we can feel deep inside that there's part of us that still remains in us. I believe it's hard to change things when you are really used to it. But, they say, first steps are hard to take. it takes a lot of effort if you want to change something in you. Sure, there are people who still acts like young even if thery're not. But being responsible is what e really have to think of and act as well as we age. Even though there are things we can't avoid to do so, we have to be responsible as we age cause that's really a mandatory as well...

It's December. Yes, when you get used to one thing, it's hard to change. You're right that being responsible is important. Even though we are old and act as young, when you are responsible of what you do, there's no problem. So, what are those childish things that remains in you?

That's good adnileb. You have to avoid those acts that can really distinguish you as already grown up. Me, even if i am already old, i still do feel and act young. I still love going out with friends at night ( my HS batchmates ) drinking Tanduay Ice while having videoke session. I like watching teleseryes, specially Ina, Kapatid , Anak. I think in order that we should always feel young, we should always look happy and be with happy people too.

I was surprised when you said that you don't have TV. I thought all average income people have one or two TVs at home. Though i know that the modern way now is the computer, where you can watch anything. Yeah, in fact my office mates are all younger people. And i love it, because they make me feel like i am just their age.

...and don't forget to be with young people too. I love singing, we also have those nights of drinking and videoke sessions during some ocassions at home. Looking happy is a way to reduce those fine lines that shows our age. We should always laugh when there is a chance so we could reduce a couple of years to our age. I rarely watch a teleserye because we don't have a TV at home. I mean the home that we are renting. We only have computers so we mostly watch movies. Me and my fiance loves watching cartoon movies. I really feel like a kid. Anyways, thanks for sharing my friend. Have a nice day ahead.

At home, we have three TVs. But we live here near our workplace (boarding house) and not in my hometown and only go home at night. So little hours for watching TV, surfing the net and mylot. So, we chose just to have a computer rather than TV. Here in the office, I am not yet the oldest. Some are 30~32 and my boss is just 34.

Being 'grown-up' has always been more about "position in life" to me---from 'sitting at the grown-up's table' to 'being the teacher/leader/baby-sitter.' It's more about 'leading/directing the little kids' than 'how mature you are.'

Thanks! Staying young at heart will somehow keep you far from ageing. Nobody wants those lines and wrinkles so we have to be worry-free. But this is life and we cannot control having problems so we just have to balance it by doing things that makes us child again.

Beli I am seriously hurt! You should not disclose my childish behavior in public the way you have done. Okay, I agree that age is a common problem that hits any one but the only difference is you are hit a lill lesser so lesser childish, whereas I being far more bigger than you physically, mentally and age wise a little more childish. On a serious note, a child in you not only keeps fit, healthy, raring to go but makes you happier and helps enjoy your life in a far better way. Cheers and my best wishes for a healthy life. Happy B'day well in advance

I most certainly agree with you and that's how we keep aging at bay. I still want to kid around, I read kids' books, and I listen to today's music and love to dance to the beat of Oppan Gangnam Style. I do not know why I've always been in step with the time. I dress and act young--I choose to be this way. What do they think I should do? I wear what I want to wear and behave my own natural way.

Are you still reading fairy tale books? I do read those sometimes. An since you mentioned that Gangnam style, I always make a dance move at home and I know I definitely look silly. I'm at home and I don't care. As long as we look good, there's no harm wearing dress that's good only for young people. You're right, we just have to be ourselves. Stay young!

The reality of life! Yes, it is hard to believe sometimes how much we have grown old. But I guess there are things that remained in me all through these years. I would say that I do not see myself as "old" even if there are signs of my age, coz maybe because I am spared of being around people who are working in offices who tends to be so serious in life. I just live a simple life. I may be strict with my kids at times, but they could definitely talk to me like their sister. You may know that parents of the older days could be having this WALL between them and their kids.

Oh, good thing there's no wall between me and my parents. I cannot imagine having that wall when I am an only child. I guess I would be insane since then.
