Our country has gone through calamities because of flood. It is because of the problems with garbage that clogs the drainage systems, thus causing the rain water to not run smoothly and cause floods. The solution that is being implemented now is not to use plastic materials anymore in groceries, fast food stores, and other facilities. I think that it is a good way to solve problems with garbage disposals. Now, we have to bring our own reusable bags when doing groceries and shopping. However, it is not a total ban policy since shoppers can still use those plastic bags if they do not have reusable bags, they just have to pay for it. I think it just give the shop owners another way to earn income for those plastic bags that we have to pay for. What are other ways that you think can help to prevent floods?

Hi friend, Here also we don't have the ability to use plastic things. The law is very strict here and the person who is using plastic things like bags, covers and other things will be banned in my place and we reduced our garbage things to keep the earth clean and free from environment

I am from India, i am not sure whether this law is applicable for other states in our country. But in TN particularly in my place, plastic is completely banned and we are in need to pay penalty if we use plastic things

It's good to see people in our country using those reusable bags and sacks specially on wet market. I can say, it's really hard to be a vendor in wet or even dry market cause you have to blend in others as well. Rule is to avoid or minimize using plastics for it can cause floods or drainage blocking as you said. It's really up to people how to minimize their plastic usage. For in the long run, we will all be benefit for having better drainage and stop having floods as well..

If only this no plastic policy will be implemented strictly , then greatly helps our environment . In a market if this will be implemented then people will be forced to bring a reusable basket else she can't have any container for her groceries. It is a very good policy. Garbage would be lesser now , drainage will no longer clogged and river won't be polluted and infected. Hope government will act on this hence using of cellophane still very rampant making area dirty and pollutted. Have a beautiful Sunday !

I don't think Plastic is the reason for floods. Truely plastic is very harmfull for earth, trees and our atmosphere. We induviduals can not prevent our country from using plastics. So, our Governments should take steps to prevent the plastic and polythin productions. Those companies producing these harmfull stuffs should be banned.

The ways to prevent floods is actually easy and there are too many ways. If and only if all people in our country will have this mental discipline of not throwing the trashes everywhere. I hate it when seeing somebody throwing the plastic cups on the street then it will turn to a point that when the disaster comes it can ruin the lives of our love ones then more so they are going to blame the government all of again as if they are the causes of disasters that are happening in our country. If they realize or even reflect that we are the cause of those disasters and it is like we are the one who are killing our love ones and more so killing ourselves. If we all have mental discipline regarding this matter then chances are when there was Ondoy then I could imagine that there would be lesser floods then casualties are only few or chances are no one will die. Ondoy is just a big heavy storm if that is the case.

Yeah no use of plastics is now implemented in some areas and places. In a way,I could help to prevent flood and lessen plastic garbage that we have right now.Better to used reusable bags than plastic that could somehow help to lessen the garbage. But I think we better not blame it to the plastic alone since us people are the one who are responsible of using this plastic and produce this plastic that cause floods if we don't dispose and use it properly.

It has been five months since banning of plastic was implemented in our province. I think it was a good decision of the government as this is one way in achieving the millennium development goal (Goal No. 7: ensure environmental sustainability. In our place, we also bring with us the reusable bags and if ever we forget to bring one, they would put the groceries in paper bags or we would buy another reusable bag. Plastics are not allowed anymore. Planting more trees can be of big help. Our government are also having different projects regarding this one.

It's a good thing to say NO! to plastics. When I go to the market and/or supermarket I always use my backpack. Also I have a linnen bag. BUT!!!! It's not the plastic bags that are the main cause of the floodings. No, it's the people that like to throw everything out in the open. And I hate that so much! People should be taught about this. Back in Holland we had 2 commercials every evening before the news started. They came from our government. Always teaching us useful things. Most about the environment but also about safety.

How good is your countries recycling program? That would be a great way to cut down on garbage. Also while using your own bags from home is probably a little more eco friendly why not recycle them? Maybe they should create a plastic bag recycle bin for people to toss old bags in.
