It would be an important railway which connect Shanghai and Nantong. The Changjiang Bridge of this railway would be 1092m long while the longgest railway bridge in China is 570m long. That's the hardest challenge for the Shanghai-Nantong railway. This railway could totally change the transportation of Nantong and Shanghai. These two big cities will be connected directly. Nontheless, the Shanghai-Nantong railway would not connect them in a line but with Suzhou. That's a bit unfortunately. But anyway, it would be glad to see that this railway could be built soon.
The railway will pass Pindong, Nantong, Zhangjiagang, Changshu, Taicang and Anting before finally arrive at Shanghai. The fastest traveling speed of the passenger train would be 200 km/h, which means that CRH trains could run in this line.

Yes, in China, now there are more than 100 different railway projects in progress and the railway ministry is considering another 100 projects. For lesser developed areas, railways are essential for their economic development. Personally, I am looking forward to the Chengdu - Lanzhou railway, which would be the hardest railway because it directly cross the Mount Longmen Earthquake area, which caused the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake. Now the railway is still in experimental phase but I believe that it would be built soon. It would help the development of Qiang people and the travel industry in Jiuzhaigou. Meanwhile, building this railway could help us to gain the experiences of building such hard railways and we could use these techniques and experiences in the Chengdu - Lasha railway.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well glad to know about this and i am sure the transportation woes will be soon overcome with this. Transportation is the most essential part of a place and if it is not present then people will obviously face problems in traveling to various places. Besides if there is availability of train service then it will make the traveling more faster and people will be largely benefited to travel between two cities.
What say?

In addition, railway transportation could help the factories. The freight train is among the cheapest methods of transporting goods. And it is also the most environmental friendly one except huge tankers.
