I will be on holiday next week. I will be visiting for the first time the island of Coron here in my country and I am really excited. For those who want to know how beautiful these islands, just try to look at pictures online and you will understand just how excited I am.
Our tour includes island hopping amongst the scattered islands in Coron. The package includes a seafood buffet. This poses a bit of a problem for me since I have a seafood allergy. This is one of the reasons why in spite of so many beautiful beaches here in my country, I go to very few of them and with little enthusiasm.
If you had a food allergy like I do, what would you do? I am already considering bringing my own sandwich during the island hops.

Wow how exciting that could be. But like you I have the same food allergy. Even not eating exactly the thing but just the serving spoon use on it and mixed with other food I still got the itch. What I usually do on a trip like that is that I always bring with me antihistamine and just a handful of quick easy food to prepare and few snacks and sandwiches.

I'll have no problem with the snacks because it would be probably a sandwich or a pastry. Good idea, I will bring a while bunch of antihistamines just in case. Thanks for your response.

You could ask the catering compaby in advance whether they have an alternative menu... well, they should, because they whould be ware of food allergies. But bringing your own snadwich is a pretty good idea, too, just in case. But this shouldn't stop you from visiting the beaches. I've been to some beaches, and I could always eat non-seafood dishes in restaurants.

I wouldn't miss visiting the beaches in my holiday itinerary! I'm just a little worried with the food given my allergies. I will try to ask if they can prepare something else for me and if not, then I do have to bring my own lunch.

I would ask you to meet a doctor and take medicines with you to avoid the allergy. I believe that, Prevention is better than cure. So carry some medicines with you all the time especially when you are on traveling. So that you can have them and avoid allergy problems and you could enjoy the tour at the most.

Good to hear about your trip. Wish you to have a great trip and enjoy it a lot.
We are in need to travel various places in our life due to business purpose, educational needs or for vacation. Most of us like travelling and interested in visiting various places. While travelling we must consider various factors like food, staying place, language and others. Food is playing an important role in our life and we don't have the ability to get the same food in other countries. If we are going out of our country, we must prepare our self to adjust with the food of other countries.
Different kind of countries having their own food style. In fact in a single country we can find various foods, so there is no wonder in food changes while travelling. Some people have allergy with some items as well as strict vegetarian from childhood. This kind of persons don't have the ability to take non vegetarian food as well as the allergenic items. If we know cooking and take the necessary ingredients for our cooking activities, then we don't find any problems.
Most of us trying our maximum to avoid the foods which is not apt for us. We must take alternate food to over come from the issues. Avoid the food which is not good for you, don't take your food for other persons sake, it may give some unwanted issues to you. Learning cooking is always good to avoid lot of problems in our life. If we know cooking, we have the ability to prepare food for our self and avoid this kind of unwanted items.
Lot of simple and easy dishes are available as well as instant foods are quite common in this days and ready made cooking items are available in market, so we can take this kind instant items which is our favorite one while travelling. This kind of activities will help us to avoid the unwanted allergy foods and we can take the food which is apt for us.

The food buffet or picnic lunch is included in the package we availed of and it was kind of late when I checked and saw that the one we got had the seafood lunch. But still, it's a vacation! I'll just have to watch out the food that they'll be serving. Thanks for your response!

I know that islands are beautiful I am FIJI ISlANDS and yes it is like heaven. I can understand your excitement. Coron island is new to me though but it is an island so i can relate anyway. For me when i traveled to India first time I ate something and had food allergy which was bad. my whole body was swollen. to add, my mum has allergy to seafood and I know it is bad. So if you have allergy to sea food, just eat what all you are okay with because you don't wanna spoil your trip because of eating something which makes you sick or something. Since you are paying for the buffet which must be expensive as I assume than do not let your hard earned money go waste, you can ask them to make something else for you as an exception. I am sure they will be happy to hear from you. .. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead..

Wow! That sounds like a wonderful trip and I hope that you will very much enjoy it. I have seen photos of the islands around Coron and I would love to go island hopping there. I always take my own food since I eat a vegan diet. My kids went to a party and I gave them vegan food at it. I suggest due to your seafood allergy you take your own sandwiches, snacks and drinks in a lunch box. Good luck with making your packed lunch before your island hopping trip.

They will be serving fruit, so even if I can't eat from the seafood lunch, I can still get something from the fruits. Thanks for your response!

I would bring fruit and nuts and water, but I am sure there are many things you will be able to eat without worry since so many people have an allergy to seafood. You just have to mention your allergy so that you don't experience any kind of cross contamination.

Even as a local, I consider it a paradise judging by the pictures and how calm the seas are in that area. Thanks for your response. I just hope they have some fish. Not just crabs and shrimp which they first think of serving because it really appeals to tourists.

very common because the food is not properly sterilised or well,so we tend to have allergies often

Oh! I heard a lot of wonderful things about Coron! My colleagues just went there last month and they said they had a wonderful experience. Hmmm.. too bad though that you are allergic to seafood. As for me, I really like shrimps and my mouth starts to water as I type this. Hahaha... Well... I am sure they have fish as well or yes.. you can just bring your own food or baon. Anyways, you are there not for the food but for the great scenery. (^.^)

My traveling companion is already watering up to her gills with anticipation over the seafood buffet. I will just check if there will be something that I can eat, and they will be serving fruit. Thanks for your response.

Aww, I almost drool with envy! Lol! Palawan is my next target vacation for next year, this year we went to Boracay. My sister just spent her long weekend there and now I'm even more antsy to finally get there.
Why don't you try to have a doctor prescribe you some antihistamine? Or you can see online what they usually have on buffets, I'm sure even if it's a seafood one they will also offer some other variety. If not, you can phone in advance if they will provide some other set of menu for those with seafood allergies.
I hope you get this taken cared of so you can enjoy your Palawan getaway to the fullest!!

You can always bring a sandwich as a back up plan. I wouldn't be surprised though if they had some non seafood available. You can probably call and ask someone. Seafood allergies are somewhat common not to mention some people just plain don't like seafood. I wouldn't be surprised if something else was available to eat.
