Hey guys, whenever i get cold or fever, the one thing that my mother and my whole family keep on saying is that i stay away from water falling on my body and take very less bath. I sometimes find logic in her saying and sometimes i find it extremely funny as our body is warm during cold and fever then why should be stay away from water is the question that pops up in my mind during such times.
What do you have to say on this guys? Do u think we should stay away from water during cold and fever? Please do share your thoughts!

It is quite simple, during any disease or illness, our body keeps fighting against bacteria and viruses and they are extremely active when our body temperature is low.
so our body keeps the temp. up.
whenever you take bath our body normalizes temperatures with the water, if you take hot water bath our body will increase temperature, and with cold water our body will decrease temperature to normalize. if it is decreased virus will be active which is bad, so it is not better to take cold water bath or drink cold water.
although i am not doctor i feel this way.

Thanks a ton for your response. Well yes u are absolutely right the germs like bacteria and virus are most active on us when we are down with any illness and especially during cold and fever they tend to increase our body temperature. So in order to compensate that temperature we have to take bath and also the intake of water should be high to get quick results for recovery. i will try to take your advise seriously and try to take head bath so that we can maintain cleanliness and hygienic conditions very well around us.

Hi,
It is not wrong to take bath when you have cold. But I avoid bath when I have fever. We should drink more water when we have cold and fever. We should drink warm water when we have cough and cold. I think your mother is right.

Thanks a ton for your response. Well yes u are absolutely right that if not a head bath then taking warm water will prove relief for us as it will take away the heat and reduce the body temperature to a normal level suitable for our body. Even i avoid bath as much as possible whenever i am down with cold and fever but since i am very much particular about cleanliness and hygienic conditions, i sometimes breaks this rule myself and take bath for some minutes.

Hi subhojit!
While it is true that you should not take a bath when you have fever, you should drink more water. So that the heat inside your body will be released.

Thanks a ton for your response. Well yes you are absolutely right, intake of water should never be reduced at any cost. It is widely known that water not only helps to control our body functions but also helps in reducing the body temperature to a normal temperature that is suitable for our body. I am still pondering over the fact why it is being advocated not to go for a head bath when you are down with cold and fever but since our elders are saying us to do that, we need to follow it.

My friends also often tell me that don't take a bath when I get cold or fever, they think taking a bath during cold or fever may make it worse. But drinking more hot water is necessary.

Thanks a ton for your response. Well yes you are absolutely right, even my friend and parents advocate the same of not going for a head bath when you are down with fever or cold as it might aggravate the fever even more. Now since i have been following this for years even i advise the same thing to others about not going for a bath during such conditions. But yes, water intake should not be reduced as it helps in reducing the body temperature to a normal temperature during such an illness.

i think staying out of water is correct. when we get cold or fever, out body is weak so a lot of water may cause the body cannot react so quickly and in the end the water is not helping but it is worsen it. if just use wet towel i think is the best because the little amount of water helping to cold down the fever and make the body reply to the water slowly for cooling down.

Thanks a ton for your response. Well yes u are right that if we suddenly take a bath during our illness that our body might not react so quickly as u have mentioned and hence the situation might worsen after that. The idea of wet towel is new to me and i will definitely take your advise seriously next time m down with cold. The use of wet towel will also rule out the idea of getting a normal bath as during such an illness we would be feeling sick and exhausted to move to our washroom and take a bath.

I have never heard of this. I agree with the other posters about it being a myth. If anything when I'm sick I feel a little better after a hot shower or bath when I'm sick. The steam clears your sinuses and if you have muscle aches related to fever the hot water will bring relief.

Thanks a ton for your response. yes even i am slowly realizing that it is a myth and we are just following it since our ancestors have also been following the same. I agree to you on this point that taking a hot steam bath or shower during cold or fever is just so relaxing and it plays an important role in taking off the viruses and bacterias present on our body and helps in recovering more fast. I do not why i do have to stay away from taking a bath even when i know the fact that it is just a myth and nothing else. He he he.

Thanks a ton for your response. Well yes u are absolutely right, elders have been following this and may be this is the reason why they are also advocating us to follow the same just like their elders might have instructed them. Even i feel the same that we can go for bath even during the fever and cold sessions otherwise how we will reduce the heat present inside our body during such conditions. We cannot rely on medicines and antibiotics every time.

Thanks for sharing this discussion , I would say its better not to take bath , when we r suffering from cold or fever , because we would be exposing our body to cold wind and I am sure if your mom advised you something it would be totally correct ..... Just to maintain hygiene , its better to take sponge bath with warm water ...

Thanks a ton for your response. Yes you are right, rather than taking a head bath its better to stay off the water for some time and give ample time for our body to get recovered on time. Besides we need to maintain a lot of cleanliness around us when we are ill and may be that is the also the reason that we should also not avoid taking bath during our illness otherwise we will become the site of breeding of germs and all.

Thanks a ton for your response. Well yes i am not talking about drinking water, i am talking about taking head bath during cold and fever. Of course intake of water should never be reduced no matter whatever illness we are having. Even there is a point in your statement that since our body is producing more heat during our illness so we need to take lots of water to reduce the body temperature to a normal temperature and overcome fever and cold.
