Mylot Reputation

I am sure there might be some other discussions about mylot reputation. But still I want to give a personal touch to this discussion so I am starting it. I want to know what exactly is the Mylot Reputation? My points show 8 - 81/100. So what does it mean? I have seen and read discussions and responses here with poor English and with no grammar sense. Yet there reputation is higher than me. How is it? Secondly, does the reputation have any effect on the earning potential?

The star besides your name is not placed as a way to grade your knowledge of English. This is a site where there are many people who don`t have English as their native language. Stioll, in spite of apoor English as grammar goes, their responses are interesting. Other responses or posts, even with a good English, can be poor and with low quality. Not everybody use the same way to qualify a post. I generally don`t do it unless the post is rude or wonderful.

I never meant that the star shows how good one is in the English language. May be it is the interpretation of someone like you can this could be interpreted in any way by anyone. I however, didn't mean it at all and it wasn't even in my mind when I was writing that question above. I merely wanted to draw the attention of the people towards the language quality though I know that it is never an ingredient in accessing mylotters here.
I agree that good English doesn't necessarily mean that the posts are interesting by any means. But how often do you rate a post or a response if you start a discussion.
I have heard many people say here that mylot is a place where they can improve their writing skills. That is so true and satisfying to know this.

The fall and rise of reputations depends solely on the hands that rate our posts. I have seen what you noticed regarding poorly wriiten posts yet command the highest star ranking which only explain that these people are getting favorable rating from others. If everyone care to rate others I am sure their star reputations would not remain static for a long time.

That' right what you said and observed the same thing as I did. But I don't think it will be right to go on giving a plus to each and every discussion or response at will. I fear that might be abusing the system. Just increasing the star reputation cannot be the only aim here. There are times when we have a neutral view about something or things are we are not interested in. We tend to ignore the ratings at such times. I, at least, do this.

it is very important as it deals with many crucial issues like spelling and the quality of topics too

@ natliegleb,
What you are saying however does not seem to be a characteristic here while rating the mylot users.
@ Sindelle,
As the Lamb has pointed out, only the rating given by the members is taken into account. I mean there shouldn't be any problem with the response if the contents are useful. As I had mentioned in the query above, I had seen many posts that had enough errors to be easily rejected. However, I found the contents useful and that would bring value to the entire particular discussion.
I totally agree with Adnileb. My mind and conscious will never allow me to rate someone negatively if I have got some useful info in the response.

abhi:
You have 1652 in bracket. that means you must have been here for quite some time. fine. mylot reputation is based on + or -our friends give for us. Now take the cursor to your star. it shows 81. that means your mylot reputation now is 81. As and when other members give you + it will improve to 86 and in that case you will get 9 star. after that moves to 95.6 then you will move to 10. enjoy posting + to others and let your friends give you + so that your reputation improves.

Hi, Yes, I have been here since when I think the total mylot population was about 1,45,000. I don't remember the figure exactly. So, there are about 1,00,000 people who joined after me.
The first few things are known to me and I always see the ratings of other members too. As far as the other things are concerned, I am well aware of these things, as you mentioned I have been here for a long time. Anyways, thanks for the information.

I think you are participating less. because one day back i saw number as 1652 and now 1653 only. you have been posting replies in this only. The problem is in case a discussion is deleted all our efforts will go waste. so it is better to post responses in various discussions so that deletion will not affect us much.
@abhi_bangal (5534)

You are right about what you said about the deletion. But there are two things I would like to say.
The first is I don't think this discussion will get deleted as it is not violating any guidelines.
Secondly, I have heard, but I am not sure that the bucks we earn for a certain discussion and it gets deleted, are adjusted somewhere else in the other discussions. Now, again let me say, I am not sure about this rule though.

Because that myLot reputation is solely based on how myLot users rate us. So, rather than English grammar, the usefulness of the post may play the more important role.
Other than that, your post may need to please another myLot users, so they will be happy and are willingly to vote you positively.
Does it affect our earnings?
Intuitively, yes, I guess. Even I don't have much proofs to say.
But I remember that with the same activities, my earning when my reputation was below 7 and my earning now is rather different.
@abhi_bangal (5534)

I am sure by 'different' you mean to say that the earnings are 'better' and 'improved'. Am I right? So this means that the reputation and the star rankings do have a say in our earnings. Thanks for the response. Even if you don't have any proof, now I have it that the earnings can increase. This is your experience after all.

I don't know about the rating thing. As a matter of fact, I think I haven't seen mine. But well, what's really more important for me was the fact that I can right basically about everything under the sun. Plus, I can also practice my writing skills here as well. :)

Your rating will not show until you reach 100 points . Be active and get to know members because they are the ones rating you . Dont worry you will get your star soon .

@ auwielady,
As silverfox09 has pointed out, you will need to reach at least 100 posts here before you see any rating. I guess, the time one takes to reach 100 posts is the time the admin or the algorithm uses to see the level of your responses, etc. But if you are active with interesting and useful information in your responses, you will see a good rating when you are 100 posts old. You have about 56 more to go. I would say don't rush in to complete the 100 posts and see what your rating is. Go on naturally! Good luck!

@ cobalt20,
Like you, I also don't give much importance to the reputation as long as two things are happening - my responses are getting noticed here and secondly, I am getting paid. Of course, I am not here to earn or giving earning the first priority. Mylot is not a site to earn fast bucks, I believe. People here are friendly and help each other. That's the best value a site can give.
I am sure as ravi has mentioned will happen with you, me and everyone else if the responses hold some value and one gets a "+" for the activity.

we have to write tin english. Quality fo english is not relevant. content quality is important. if other members like what you post they will give +. then your reputation will improve. now you have 6 star and it will further rise to 7,8,9 and 10 step by step. read the discussions and also the links given by other members.

hi abhi bangal we are all to rate one otghers posts plus for good minus for
bad. your 81 percent reputation is pretty g ood, red is better, and blue is
the best.yes our reputations are figured inot the earnings algorithm so it pays tol keep as high as you can by dolng your best to make quality posts not quantity but guality posts.

Do all people really rate others' posts? To be honest I am not too regular in doing that? Can that have any impact on my ratings? Yes, though the reputation of 81 is not bad, it's not moving either. I have been there on 80 for many days and just moved to 81 a few days back. So, I don't know really how much being regular here affects that. I know that it is the quality of the posts and not the quantity that really matters. But do the people with a higher reputation earn more what they would have earned for a lower reputation?

As many other members have said, that's right. Quality posts deserve to be rated highly. However, I don't know the second part of your answer. I haven't given it so much attention to see that the newbie are rated highly. Is it to encourage them and to increase their confidence?

Welcome you fearless one. To be honest, I never really paid a lot of attention to the stars and their meaning. Now even I have been enlightened and will certainly work towards the betterment of the reputation.
As far as I know, interesting and quality posts can raise the reputation for sure. But I guess, there are many mylotters here who can guide you better than me. Or just follow the link given in one of the above responses

Well, I would say yes. I mean, the more bonding you show towards the other person you are in touch with here, the more your ideas will flow. If you respond considering the query of another mylotter as your own, you will be able to respond more precisely and with greater interest. Mylot is like a family and people here are indeed helpful. Be one of them, that's what I can say.

I have joined MYLOT family so I known MYLOT is not much. I think reputation of MYLOT really divering from money earning potential, this is main motivation to many people participate in. So do I. If only because of learning English, there will be alot of websites to study, such as: www.voaspecialenglish.com, tienganhonline,...But why do not I join them. So, let us make money from myLot but do not fofgot our studying English task

@ ravisivan,
I think ravisivan, you have missed a valid point in responding above. huyenhuyen1989hy was speaking about the mylot reputation in general. What we are talking about is the reputation of a single member in the site. It has nothing to do of the goodwill or the bad reputation a site carries. I guess, huyenhuyen1989hy has misinterpreted the meaning of the word 'reputation'. You could have mentioned that thing.
@huyenhuyen1989hy,
But now as ravi has mentioned the important things, I won't repeat things. I hope you have got the answer. You still need to go some distance before you will know some things that are still alien for you.

Its based on how others members rate you . Your English and grammar is not a factor in how you come across to people . Remember that mylot is not just for native English speakers also .
I am not sure if the reputation have any effect on the earning . You have a good reputation , so dont worry just be active .

Mylot is for all of us - irrespective of the fact one is native English speaker here or not. So, that is one point that hasn't been raised yet. And yes, the language has never been a factor here. Or I am sure there are many responses worth a delete.
As far as earnings and reputation go, there looks to be a mixed bag. Some members are saying they have seen an increased with higher reputation, others are claiming it's the other way round. And it looks you are undecided
