I just made one of my favorite recipes. "Oatmeal muffins to eat when you are broke" believe me, you do not have to be broke to enjoy these muffins. It is a very versatile recipe, I first got it from a friend on Gather, who got it from a site called Hillbilly Housewife. Obviously mine have oatmeal in them. I also always use yogurt, and I had an over ripe banana, and some dried apricots. They are so good, they just came out of the oven. I put real butter on mine. I ate one, but I would really like to eat every one of them. Fortunately hubby will not let me eat them all, he wants some as well. Fresh warm bread is one of my diet downfalls. How about you? Do you make hot breads?

Oh yeah, I love bread and every Friday the challa I bake is usually gone before bedtime or at least before the weekend is over. I also make a great cranberry bread that I can sit and eat the whole loaf if I am not careful. I would love your "Oatmeal muffins to eat when you are broke" recipe, sounds delicious..

this is where I got the recipe. Tonight I used plain yogurt, and also mashed in an overripe banana and threw in dried apricots. I used a little whole wheat flour. It is so very easy and versatile.

Yes, and I love to eat it, too. It doesn't even have to be anything special, just plain old homemade bread and I'll eat it every chance I get! Your oatmeal muffins sounds an awful lot like the ones I make, but I make mine with pumpkin in it. I'm glad it's too late to start baking tonight!

Oh, don't let him boss you around. My hubby likes to tease. Hope your doctor appointment went well. I have made pizza dough, and more muffins since last night. Hubby thinks with his stomach. I used your idea and put pumpkin in the ones that are baking right now.

Bread is my downfall. I have a bread machine but have not yet worked out how to use it. I use to make bread on the farm years ago and it was great. I can make it well and of course the best way is to eat it how with real butter. We have eaten a lot of cra*py fast food as our stove is electric and we had no power. Had to get the twins hot meals.

Being without power is a real challenge. I have forgotten if I knew how old the twins are. You be careful, I wish I could e mail you some home cooking. I know that we have friends on the Lot here who have been letting others cook at their house or take showers because of the outages.

Oatmeal has a pride of place in the kitchen what with its rich fiber content! One finds countless recipes with oatmeal as the main ingredient.
I have not succeeded in baking bread but I like the aroma that gets filled around me when I am attempting to bake bread!
The muffins that we make here are mostly with ground rice and coconut although nowadays 'variations' are the order of the day.

Coconut is very good. I put it in my home made granola. I have not tried any rice flour or ground rice, but I am open to adding new things to my cooking.

Coconut is the main stay here. There is never a day when I do not use it. We put it in fish, meat and egg curries. We use it for baking coconut cakes, mix it in vegetable dishes. We extract coconut juice which again is used for making several sweet dishes and used in curries too. There was a time when coconut was considered bad for health but not now. I sometimes wonder how these researchers can change their thinking like this!

A non-copyright version of Hob Nobs submitted by a member of the public online. They are (basically) crunchy, oaty biscuits that are well-loved over here and it's great that I've found a recipe worthy of that description.

You seriously make my mouth water, this time is the wrong time of the day to be reading about food, because it's the time when I am more likely to snack, I have an apple and a banana in front of me, but compared to your oatmeal muffins, I know what I'd rather have, they do sound versatile, I would like cheese on mine, mind you when it comes to snack cheese is always the numero uno favourite to munch on, with or without anything else!

Cheese is very yummy. I would probably use cream cheese on these, though. Probably a mild cheese would taste yummy too.

I don't have diet downfalls, because I eat everything-- in moderation LOL. But hot breads, muffins, donuts, are a definite weakness of mine. I use your recipe often, as a matter of fact-- I like to make them after Thanksgiving dinner so I can mix in the leftover cranberry sauce no one ever remembers to eat.I often wonder if THAT happens in everyone else's house too-- first the turkey goes, then my green bean casserole (I have an amazing recipe for that if anyone wants it, uses cream of chicken instead of cream of mushroom) Followed by the potatoes and the stuffing-- and the cranberry sauce gets thrown out. It happens every year, and the funny thing is all my various boys like cranberry sauce!

I make cranberry sauce and can it. It is just the whole berry cooked with sugar syrup. It cans beautifully. So, you use cream of chicken instead of mushroom. Anything else different in your recipe?

I had an abundance of jalapeno peppers last year and put about three in each batch, because we have some who like it hot. I have also put apples in them, but the cinnamon and ginger sound great.

Just the bacon, the sauteed mushrooms and onions, the Italian seasoning and my mix of shredded cheese to top it :-). My grandmother made it when I was a kid-- I make two, one with mushrooms and one without mushrooms, since I won't eat the danged things. I love canning my own cranberries, I use a touch of honey, ginger and cinnamon in mine. Everyone loves them, but I never seem to make the right amount. I also can them with a conventional recipe for people who aren't adventurous :-).

They sound very yummy but u be a good girl & share, lol.I do make hot breads but not often because i sure don't need them. I do fix me biscuits for breakfast most every morning,. I use the frozen ones now, use to make them but w/the frozen ones i can fix just what i want & they really are good.I make corn bread but not as often as i would like, lol. I make banana & zuchinni bread to. I have been on a cookie kick because my little grandaughter loves 'TOOKIES' as she calls them When she got here the other day & saw i had made some she just clapped, lol.

I try not to make cookies too often because I will eat most of them. Hubby likes the muffins as they are not as sweet, and we both are in heaven when I make cornbread. My son even ate one of my muffins which is surprising because I mushed a banana in it, and he does not like banana bread.

I am not really good at cooking breads. I like to bake pies and cookies and cakes though. I do like to buy the fresh loafs of bread that they put out in the bakery department of my local grocery store. They really are quite fresh and soft to eat and chew on. But now that I have to pinch every penny I just have to buy the day old breads since they are half priced. But I still enjoy a fresh bread loaf from time to time.

I absolutel love muffins, cookies, anything fresh out of the oven. I made chocolate cocoa oatmeal cookies the other day. I ate the entire plate, noone else wanted them, and I kept going back for more. I think in total I left two and I was just thinking of going up and eating them.

I use yogurt, brown sugar and whatever else I have on hand. I had an over ripe banana so I mixed that with the yogurt and oatmeal today before doing anything else. I have used plain yogurt, or flavored yogurt. I hope this is something that you enjoy.

A cookie fresh out of the oven, or a muffin, anything like that, is going to go into my mouth. After that I had best walk out of the house and lock the door behind me, and just keep walking because otherwise I WILL eat every last cookie I made. Of course, that is unless family is right behind me snatching them too... But then I keep going back for seconds regardless.
I don't make Hot breads, but I do make cookies.

Cookies call my name all the time. I am worse on them than on muffins. I can get away with a lot more whole grains in the muffins. I want a hot cookie now.
Thanks a lot. When will you be baking again?

Muffins are too good to let them get cold. I love banana blueberry muffins. In fact, I love any sort of muffins, but those are specially good. I use more bananas when they are overripe than normal bananas served as desserts.

We usually just peel and eat our bananas, but when they get overripe I either bake immediately, make a smoothie, or freeze the banana for later. They add the perfect amount of sweetness to the muffins.

I did not know that bananas could be frozen. Do you mash them first? I also love bananas because they are fairly cheap the whole year around here.

I think carbs in general are everyones diet down fall. I love, or I should say, used to love cake and bread. We all love to eat what tastes good. And we always seem to shy away from the food that is good for us. Why I said I used to like these things is because now that I am diabetic it is not a smart thing for me to do. And lets face it, most carb filled foods are always weight gaining food.

I have been really pushing vegetables lately, and I am lucky that I have always preferred whole grain, which can be better for you. This is a relatively healthy recipe, if I eat it in moderation. Cakes, I could take them or leave them. Cookies are a real problem especially if I bake them at home.
