Save money from heating at home.

It has started getting cold and my dad was saying that we need to save some money from heating. It's very expensive to keep the heater on a few hours per day but we can't stand the cold! My room is at the corner of the house an two of the walls are exterior walls so it gets really cold in the winter. We were thinking about taking heaters that work with electricity but they are going to be equally expensive because of the power they will consume. What good alternatives are there yo avoid opening the central heating when the weather is so cold?

The price of the electricity has updated a lot. which can cause to empty you pockets when you sue them a lot. I would ask you to heat the water by natural method. The only thing you need is woods and you can get it, which would really help you to save money

If we had a fireplace or a stove it would be great! But the house is rented and the landlord didn't let us install a stove with woods. That's a very good idea though, I will look in the market if I can find a smaller stove that doesn't need to open a hole in the wall for ventilation. Thanks a lot :)

I am not sure what is Best, and I am sure there are many people out there like you trying to figure this one out as well. I know that it is hard when it is cold in your home, and you are trying to cut back on the amount of Electricity you use. Depending on the size of the plug in heaters and how much space you are trying to heat they can be expensive. Maybe the cheapest thing would be one of the Fake fireplaces?

I haven't thought about fake fireplaces and to be honest, I don't know how they work! I will look for them online and see if they are good for saving some energy! Thanks for your helpful idea!

look into some energy efficient heaters to get. You are saying you don't want to use central heating, thing is if you don't you will need to make sure water drips through pipes when it gets below freezing, other wise the pipes will freeze. Lots of things to think about before making that decision in not turning on central heating.. You can keep that temp gage low enough to keep pipes from freezing and use other heaters in rooms that need to stay warm.

The temperature rarely drops below zero over here, and we'll definitely turn on the central heating if it does. I am thinking that we should have a specific budget for the central heating that we can spend during the winter and try to use it only if it's necessary. We still have around 11 degrees Celcius here and it gets colder at night so I think we can stay without heating for a while.

Last year we had one heater in my room and one in the kitchen area. I didn't feel cold but the electricity bills were very high. This year I don't want to use the central heating because we only need heating in 2 rooms and not the whole house. But I don't want to pay huge bills either because the priced are higher this year. I am looking for an alternative now! Thanks for your comment!

Reading your discussion makes me glad that I don't live in a cold country. I live where the weather is either hot or wet. It's either sunny or it rains so we don't really need a heater even when it's cold. It's the hot weather that can sometimes be unbearable.

You are so lucky! :) We don't get super cold winters here but it's cold enough to need heating during the day! Having hot weather all year must be nice, but you must spend a lot in air-conditioning!
