Many people who were in NY for the marathon ran anyway - and others contributed to a large aid run where they gathered and ran out supplies to Staten Island. Some of the runners went a long way, 8 or 9 miles even, carrying heavy packs and bags of collected supplies and help for the victims. There are still lots of donation efforts going on related to the Run Anyway NYC2012 group, and like I said before, runners are some of the most loving selfless people. If we can run and help you or run and help ourselves, or make a better world by running, that's what we do.

That is awesome! I love hearing about things like this. The spirit and determination that people show in times of crisis is one of the great things about disasters. No one likes to see disasters, but seeing these kinds of kindness makes up for the hardship a little. I especially love the fact that some of them ran for a productive and useful cause in taking supplies instead of just running empty handed.

I think that the fact that these people that were in New York for the New York Marathon that was cancelled who decided to run supplies and such to those people that were victims of the storm were very generous people.
Now to most people we wouldn't think of something like this, but I do see that many athletes are very generous people anyway. They saw where there was a need that they could help to fulfill while also still doing something that they enjoy and that is a great thing.

well, it's not a loss if they run anyways, besides it's a good habit to have a nice exercise for the time being. but i do understand the criticism on the mayor there, why resume a marathon when it should have been diverted into running towards the victims and give them financial support anyways.

The runners have emerged with much more dignity than the NY mayoral office and powers that be in that city. You could have forgiven them for being furious at being led a merry dance almost right up to the day of the event before the dithering ineptitude of NYC's civic dignitaries led them to cancel. Instead, the runners rose above the organisational shambles and took it upon themselves to help those residents in need.
