I finally finished it. The Bargello/Whale quilt I was talking about. i am not happy with it and I dont' think my Grand daughter will be to terribly happy with it.
The front is a panel of Orca whales...I know she will love that side, but it isn't that soft and cuddly and she insists on that! But I just added dark blue around the panel to make it larger and then did outline stitching around the whales and other things in the panel and then meandered FMQ'd around the dark blue. The back is the Bargello pattern. I was trying to a wave/white cap effect, but didn't achieve it. I as going for a beach and then the waves as it is all about the whales etc, but Bargello is just not the pattern for such an effect! And with so many small squares and subsequent seams...the back just didn't turn out soft either. I dont' think she is going to like it at all, but at least she'll have the whale side for a comforter on her bed. It is just smaller than twin bed size..another problem... I measured and measured..and it didn't come out 6-x80 like I wanted it. Don't know where I messed up, but it is wide enough, just not long enough. Oh well..lesson learned. Just thought I'd share.
