I teach my son "to wait" even when he is still young. I always say to him "learn to wait." I think "waiting' is important. It tests your character, your patience and self control. When one is in hurry, oftentimes there are mistakes. Even in asking God for something, one should learn to wait. What do you think are other disadvantages of not waiting?

hi! its nice to know that you're teaching your son values while he's still young. i believe that teaching kids values while their young would eventually hone them into fine person when they grow up.
as i see it, one disadvantage for not waiting is to have everything go to waste. you know, the popular saying "haste makes waste" its actually true. because when you cram, you loose focus and with that everything would just be wasted.
i think being patient is a very nice character a person can have. so congrats, your in the right track into teaching your son one of the best values in life :)

That's what I'm trying to teach my one year old girl, but I'm not into .. that she really needs to learn, at least she aware that there is such thing as wait. The problem with he is when she's hungry and she wants her milk co's she's very impatient no matter I say that she waits. She screams the loudest and cry the hardest as I make her milk.
But I'm not giving up on her and I don't scold her for that co's I know of one these days she'll learn how to wait. At least now... she knew what "no" means. She would even tell that to me whenever I look at her if she does things. I can't help but smile. hahaha.
God bless. I know our kids will be good children in the future as we remain patient in teaching them the right thing. :))

My baby since she doesn't know how to say "I want milk" yet, she does it by crying but with no tears. Then when I say... "you want milk?" she will just answer me with a smile or by looking at the table where her milk bottles are, so cute. She does a lot of things and bubbles loads of words that no one understand. She calls me mommy or sometimes mama or just by my name. hahaha, but she calls her dad... daddy :)). I love everyday being with her. God bless you and your boy too.

My daughter and I were in a shop and one customer was buying hundreds of pounds of goods. The other tills were very busy as well. There was a long line of people waiting behind us. I asked my little girl to stand nicely and wait. She needed to wait and such a time can teach her to be patient. When I am in a major hurry then it can be challenging to wait for ages. The worst time is being on a late running train and knowing I am going to miss the connecting train. When driving my car sometimes I can come across red lights then I have to stop and wait for the green light to show.

That is good. I know someone who is always in a hurry even while she drives. One day, she bumped a pedestrian crossing on a road because two vehicles were slow, she overtook the two cars and she did not saw the lady crossing. That is because she cannot wait. Good for her, because the lady forgave her and nothing seriously happened to her. When someone is in a hurry and can't wait, mistakes are all around.
Thanks for your response.
Have a nice day!

It depends on the situation. If I'm in a grocery store and the line is longer usually I just look around and in silence. Actually, i'm looking at the persons ahead of me until it is my turn already. I countdown- as in "there are two persons ahead of me and I'm next.:-)

A person with a lot of patience can only wait a person for a long time. I feel it is one of the very important character need for a ideal person. A person will no patience may fall in mistakes with their hurry bury doing.
I am glad to know that your son has such a good character. I hope him a good luck for the success as well as for the brightness for his life.

I am honestly a fan of this word "wait" :)
It's not that I am slow, but I have always been taught of letting things happen in God's perfect time. Even if things would seem to be perfect at one time, mom would always say my time would also come.
I can surely testify with this regarding my promotion. Many of my office mates provoked me to complain or to feel bad, but instead I appreciated more what is present in me than envying what is present at others. I kept waiting =D Then last month, I had my time and yes- what I received was even far better that I have waited to come. =D
Waiting is indeed a sign of our long patience =)

When we don't wait we rush other people, we have to wait in order for the rest of the world to keep up. If you rush somebody you might cause them to make a mistake and that would be costly to you. I don't rush anybody, I give them time but if they take advantage of me then I'll say something. Waiting is a test, some people have no patience and think they don't have to wait. If they want to be at the front of the line then they should have gotten up sooner.

You are totally right. I agree that when we don't wait we want other people to keep on in fact double our time. I remember a friend and we were on the same team. I thought things would be okay since we were in good terms. But then I was wrong because a gap was building between us before she wanted to rush things, getting things before the agreed time. I avoided her for for quite sometime, but that God we are good nice. Our friendship is still intact.
Impatient-ness would always brings trouble to us.

i agree, we should learn to wait when required, i have seen some ,who are always in hurry to do something but we should give time to our self and learn and also waiting relaxes our mind and fill us with more energy.

I agree with you.If I can wait,I am patient. If I am patient,I am not vulnerable to fall victim to negative desires. If I can resist desires, then it means I have a strong character. So learning to wait is essential for our personality and character.Problem arises when I have to wait for things that I don't need and piles of work are waiting for me to be done. For example, when I have to accompany my wife to the market where she enters any shop to buy a sari or something else and keeps the shopkeeper and salesmen busy trying to satisfy her with the quality and price of the sari she wants to purchase. On such occasions I can't keep myself patient, but certainly I am full of praise for the shopkeepers and the salesmen who patiently keep trying to satisfy her.

Being patient and waiting is really important, everyone should learn that they can't always get what they want in a second. Waiting for something to happen or to get something for a really long time usually makes us treasure that certain thing more.

It tooks me to long to practice such kind of attitude.Yes that is very important even to my daughter I also teach that to her.Because it is also stated in the Bible too and told us to do. There is always a time for everything. And there is always a reasonw why sometimes we have to wait to get what do want.

I think today people are very impatient and it is good that you teach your son how to wait. In fact I need this character, too. I am an impatient person. I don't like waiting because it seems the time will be wasted. But sometimes it does take the time.

[b]Well, early pregnancies--especially with unwed "parents"--are a direct result of never having been taught how & why to wait. Congratulations: YOU...are a super parent!

Learning to wait teach us to be patient and patience is a great virtue! on the other hand I don't believe to wait on something or some one that is hopeless and have nothing to enrich my life!

Patience is a virtue but there's also the saying that the early bird catches the worm. These are opposite idioms so which one should you follow? I think it really depends on the situation. If you're in a building that is on fire, I think waiting too long would be disastrous. So it's good to teach a kid to have patience but it really depends on the situation too.

I think, we may miss the opportunities in between and as we go on with our way is one of those disadvantages of not waiting. It's because we are sometimes engrossed on the culmination or ending of something, or the destination. We don't appreciate those precious things that we meet while we are travelling. Those missed opportunities can be helpful to us one way or the other in our life and career.
Also, proper timing is important, anything that is excessive or done prematurely is not good. So we need to wait for the proper time for everything. I hope I can wait to see my baby in the near future as we are working hard to have one. Thanks
