For people who believes in the union under the Church's blessings, yes, it is important. And I think that everyone would love to grow old with somebody whom they love and will offer their lives to. Some would not consider marrying coz they say that they can still be together without having to sign a piece of paper. But for those who believe in the teaching of God, they would want to seal the covenant as a sign of their eternal love.

It depends on each person as well. There are person that thinks marriage is not for them and you have to respect that since each person its own reason why it is important to them or not.
If you would ask me 10 years ago I might say that marriage is not a necessity for me since I am enjoying my single life. But now that I am much more matured I value my life being married and all.
So it all depends on each person's perspective about the life they are living.
