Life after death

" I find it very hard to picture life after death( separate consciousness, I once had a lot of drink and lost all recollection of the night and it made me terrified of death, I feel my existence is pointless and meaningless and that consciousness are localized to the brain, and when I die that's it. I don't want it to be true but sometimes that's what I feel. Plus,If consciousness is separated, why are people become mentally ill? Why does our consciousness distorted when we drink a lot. And when we sleep, we blink one moment and then the nest thing we will remember is we're awake". How bout you? Ever had this questions in your mind?
