To be best I was not surprised by the electoral vote. Although the popular vote was very close, the number of swing states that favored Obama was more than enough for him to win. I mean he could have lost Ohio and Florida and would still have enough electoral votes to win a second term. Anyone else not surprised by the results tonight??

I was more relieved than surprised. The last thing that America needed at this point was another change of policy and there are many things which Obama needs to do to vindicate himself. It really worries me how right wing and insular much of America is. Let us hope that some of the hate mongers can now be silenced. Criticism is certainly a good thing but all this nonsense about whether or not Obama is really American and imputations about him being a closet Muslim are just so much irritating hogwash and have lost a great deal of respect for Americans with the rest of the world.

I actually was a little surprised. I went to bed that night with this gut feeling that Romney was going to win and to be frank...that worried me. I'm not a big O fan either but in him, we at least know what we have. I guess like Owl, I am relieved.

I was not surprised either. I think your other post says it best. This is a new era and the majority of Americans are tired of old dirty racist politics. The GOP will need to revamp its ideologies to accommodate a growing, changing, enlightened America if they hope to win anytime soon.
