You can still join. All that means to the military is that in order to stay in you need to be the best of the best. You need to have good performance reports, have good behavior on/off duty, not fail your pt tests, and be flexible if they ask you to retrain into another career field.
You get a performance report every year just like any other job. Since they're cutting back if you don't have a good performance report they are less likely to let you re enlist. Also sometimes they do whats called force shaping. They might tell a commander that they need to cut back a certain number of people. So then they'll look at every ones records. If you have very bad performance reports or a significant amount of paperwork(what you get when you do something wrong)they can discharge you. They'll normally give someone 30 days notice and an honorable discharge.
In the military your expected to set a good example. Your behavior must be good on and off duty. Years ago if you got a DUI they'd give you an article 15 and you would still be able to stay in the AF and eventually bounce back. Now most likely that would end your career. Also where I'm stationed they like to make an example out of people. In one squadron where they had a DUI problem the commander had them dress up in full service dress and march across the base. If its one thing Airman hate is full service dress not to mention the embarrassment of having to march across the base like that.
When I first joined they were very relaxed about pt tests(fitness exam). If you failed they'd just put you on an exercise program. As long as you showed improvement they'd leave you along until you finally passed. Now if you fail your pt test you will get paperwork. Also most likely you will have to speak with the commander. There is a rule also that states if you fail four pt tests within a two year period they can either take your stripe or just discharge you.
They like to put people where they need them. If there is another career field that needs people they'll possibly want to pull you and stick you over there. If you do not comply they will most likely discharge you.
Again you shouldn't have a problem getting in you just need to make sure you're the best of the best. You'll need to have good performance reports, have good behavior on/off duty, pass your pt tests, and be flexible.

I recall from previous posts that you were more interested in joining the reserves. My experience is based on Active Duty. While I'm sure they still look at these things they may not be trying to downsize as much if not at all. Also something they tend to do which I always found kinda funny. Every so often they'll do massive cut backs. Then a few years later they'll go on a recruiting spree. Its been a continuous cycle for years.

Thanks for your great response, Sindelle. :)
I just hope when I join either branch that I would do well. I would have to push my self an extra mile. I'm guessing performance report applies to all branches right? Ah I just hope I'm useful if I'm able go there.
For boot camps especially Air Force, were they fun? What if I did well on some of the PT tests, but some parts I failed? lol. Were you thunderhawk title or some other title? I think if you go beyond super, there's thunderhawk and some other I forgot.
I see they are strict. I'm guessing probably people are taking advantages of benefits from government. So gotta do well and perform well anywhere in the world.
What's it meant to fail 4 PT Tests in a year? Is that when going boot camp and then after bootcamp?
Thanks for your Active Duty point of view. Well I'll learn. I'm not sure how Reserves is but then I cannot join Air Force active duty right away because the age limit is 17 to 27 and I'm pass that age mark. Reserves Air Force has 18 to 35...
We'll I guess those military people are strict especially Air Force, who wants people not doing their work and taking those for granted. lol
Is it hard to keep doing PT Tests? Do PT test change from each year? What if those PT results change.. like if the passing for female situps is 45 and then next year sit-ups is 50 or etc.. Is it that hard to keep up? lol Oh wells.

Anyway I was able to get hold of the Air Force Reserve recruiter last Friday. He returned my call/message. Then he sent me the Air Force Application that I need to fill out before scheduling an appointment. He also sent me an ASVAB pdf to look at. I actually bought the ASVAb test booklet and also I read the Non prior service booklet he sent met. I do have all my documetns he requested and as it requested on the application. I do hope to hear from the recruiter soon regarding the filled out application for review and the resume and stuff. I don't know yet his response. I know the first thing is the ASVAB.. I'll see what happens. I'm still need to study for that so I get a better score. lol

Hi there! same here. I haven't been voting since I don't vote even if I lived U.S. I didn't register, LOL. I am not really much into presidential elections or that stuff. I guess there will be more stricter entry exam. Obama is probably planning to cut down military expenditures.
