When I was younger, I never actually consider my language skill as a big deal. Back then, I only speak two languages fluently and can only speak basic English. But since people around me only have mastery in one language, I did not actually took initiative in improving my language skills. Besides, learning a foreign language in our country is quite expensive. While living in Europe, I realize how your knowledge in foreign language is important. My basic English is not enough for me to survive. So I decided to take up formal Greek lesson and slowly I am trying to learn Russian (which i already started but stop when I transferred schoool), French and Spanish through language sites. I hope I will improve my skills as I really need to speak more than one language.

I think it is not easy to learn several language at the same time,a few years ago I want to learn Japanese and Korean and really put a lot of my time on them, but after 1 year studied I found out that I nearly get nothing, just can speak a few the most popular sentences, and can not understand the speaking of Japanese and Korean totally.
May be the reason for me is I am a little lazy, and if you really working hard then I think you can grasp several languages together, but for most of us,I think we should just focus on one language first then if you think it is OK,turn to another.

The more I tried to do it, the harder it seems. I think it is not impossible but it is really difficult and will take longer time. You're right, it is better to start with one language first. And I think I should also motivate myself as motivation is one important thing to have when learning a language.

You are doing really well. It shows that you have the language skills. Wonderful ! Yes, in fact, there
are so many different languages spoken in countries and regions around the world. One needs to
be able to speak the language especially if one has to live or participate in the activities of the country.
Enjoy learning and speaking foreign languages !

As a Chinese, it is easy for me to learn Japanese well, for there are many same characters in the two language and the two culture have something in common. But to learn English, it takes me a great efforts. After making it, I come to Germany, with the help of English culture background, it is much easier for me to take up Germany.
I think the best way to learn a new language is thinking in its way, if have some familiar culture background before, you should make full use of it.

I would have thought that trying to learn several languages at the same time would be very difficult, with each one having a different approach to the other. Nevertheless, it is certainly good to learn languages and can be very satisfying.
Here in England very few people ever bother to try learning another language. The popularity of the english language worldwide has tended to make the British quite lazy in this respect, which is a great pity.

I also am in hopes in trying to learn another language. Right now I only know English and I also know a bit of sign language. I would like to brush up and learn more sign language as of right now I am working with the public and if I were to come across someone who was deaf I would be able to communicate with them.
I also want to learn Spanish, because were I live the majority are hispanic and I'd like to communicate with them as well. I know a lot of Spanish, and I think if someone where to come to me and start talking to me in Spanish I would understand what they wanted, but how to communicate back to them with what they need is a bit of a problem with me. So I hope to brush up on my Spanish as well.

That is really nice of you. I think learning a foreign language now other than our native tongue is really important and vital to live in our society. Especially at work, you really need to have an edge to everything. And having learned a different language at work is really a plus point. Let us keep in learning my friend. Have a nice day always.

I would love to go back to school and study another language. I've only briefly studied Spanish and I don't remember much of it. I love studying other cultures and it also helps on a job resume. Part of me wants to continue studying Spanish since it seems most practical however I'm much more interested in learning something else.

Hi there! It's nice to know that you crave for learning different languages and to improve on that as well.
Personally I think that it can improve you as a person because I believe that you'll not just learn and understand diff. languages, but you'll also be able to know about other cultures as well.
