The most famous European teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona spend huge amount of money to recruit great players. As a result, those teams had been Champions more than once, but... Does it worth it as a business?
Do you think they have a return on investment?

Big names command big money. Big names attract fans and widen the exposure. And if big names players help the team win trophies, this means extra exposure which in return means it is easier for clubs to negotiate commercial deals. Eventually, this led to the money spend recovered. So the matter is more of the chicken and egg question. Spend to gain success or gain success before spending.

There are two case studies recently of big spending clubs making it big. First was Chelsea which finally managed to win Champions League last year after winning the EPL 2 times earlier. Similarly, last year Man City used the money power to win the EPL title. So yes money can lead to success at this current moment.
Cheers!

Well, in fact Real Madrid and Barca are not bad. They won a lot of money through their good performance and their stars, especially Real Madrid. And they've been famous teams for a lot of years. The teams that bought championships are Man City and Chelsea. They bought championships through being bought by rich businessmen. They cost too much on buying players. And for them, their owner are extremely rich and what they want is championships. I think these actions bring a lot of negative influence to the society, but it's very hard to say that it doesn't worth. Because that's what their owners want -- they don't care such money, they have oil, they are extremely rich. (especially Man City).

Buying championships, has never been a good thing. look at all the years the new york Yankees tried it. Sure they won some, but lost many more.
