Here in the NY/NJ region we are still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Sandy, and now we are dealing with the results of "winter storm athena". Hundreds of thousands of people were still without power from Sandy, and now thousands more have lost power again. More flooding, more downed trees and power lines, and more homes lost again last night. And it is only the beginning of November. Luckily people are working together and are remaining strong, but our region has really been devastated. I hope this is a wake-up call to people who think our global climate isn't changing....

Saw it from the news and it's really sad.
Our country suffer more when rainy season comes.
Before,we are waiting for the rainy season with smiles and people from provinces even offer rituals and prayer for the coming of rainy season.
But lately- the situation become different.
Rainy season becomes the worst nightmare and season here in our country- whether in provinces and in metro cities.
No places is spared from floods and landslides.
I agree, hope everyone now understand how nature revenge.

I know that the Philippines is a country that suffers through many horrible storms. We have several family members who live there and we are always worried about them.
And it has been getting worse all over the world. We are not used to this kind of weather because our weather is usually pretty temperate here--some storms, but usually mild, and 4 fairly even seasons. That is all changing, however. At least we are becoming more prepared!
Stay safe and dry!

keep on remaining strong, dear. that is the only way you can go through the crisis. climate change is a contributing factor to all these problems. i keep wondering when the hurricane scare will start spreading to other continents. very soon, we'll start having such phenomena in other places in the world apart from N.America and Asia

Unfortunately, I think you are right--weather problems will spread world-wide in the near future. The only good thing to come out of this, besides the great showing of support we have received from each other locally and from others such as yourself who offer support, is that maybe since it was New York City that was so badly damaged, people will finally sit up and start to take notice of all of these weather changes. Maybe now we can start working on changing our behavior world-wide before it is too late. Thanks for the support!

hi,
yes the recent floods in our country also left people home less and the all the crops spoiled and under water. We are watching a number of news everyday about the farmers who lost their crops and they don't have anything left to eat or to live. The power cut has become the severe problem now in our country too. But its takes much time here.
I thought everything is fine now in NY, but from your discussion it seems nothing is well. yes i agree, we are responsible for this global climate change , we are cutting down the tress and not using the natural resources properly . I think its natures revenge on us. Hope we realize that soon.

Things are slowly but surely getting back to normal, but things are definitely not fine yet. the big snowstorm that just hit has added a lot of problems--there is still flooding and power outages, and we are now on gasoline and water restrictions. Thousands of people lost their homes outright, and hundreds of thousands have sustained damage. At one point over 8 million people were without power.
Sounds like you know exactly what I am talking about because your country has been through many of the same things. I really do hope people start taking our environment and our weather seriously, and start to actually preserve resources while we still have them.

I am very sad to hear it. For a long time I have not seen news so I do not know information about consequences of storm. I am Vietnamese, my country usually suffer consequences from the storm so I am sympathetic to countries where the storms rage.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, the back-to-back storms have definitely caused major damage here, but luckily the U.S. has the resources to rebuild. And the loss of life was minimal, all things considered, which is a blessing.
Vietnam certaily has more than its fair share of storms and other problems because of them. I hope you are in an area that is not affected too badly.
