I just received a notification that an armed intruder was apprehended at one of the local colleges here in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. My son attends one of the other campuses and is in school right now as I type this. This is the second time I have received news like this while my son is at school. The other time it was a bomb threat and they had found a suspicious device in the school library. That was a fake bomb, but nonetheless I was scared by the threat.
Apparently, an armed student was reported on the campus and the school was on lockdown after a female student was seen with a possible gun in the school library. This occured about 1:00 p.m. EST today, and an hour later the lockdown had been lifted but the suspect had not been found. Great... Here is a link to the story:

I go to school across the street from BC and I actually got an automated phone call from my school telling me about the alert. The recorded message said there was no threat to my school but that BC was on a lockdown. I got the same call about 3 or 4 times. I thought it was nice my school does alerts like that for the students. I even got a call once the lockdown was lifted. I never found out the full story on what happened though

Wow! we're neighbors then! I got the same automated calls to except they said that it was at the central campus. Fortunately my son goes to the north campus. But still you don't want to get any phone calls like that ever. I'm just glad that they have that alert system set up for the schools.
Thanks for your comment and have a great day!!!

Yeah we probably live right near each other! I probably live about 15 minutes west of Nova and BC's central campus. It is nice that they have the alert system, it's definitely harder to keep college students informed of what's going on at the campus as opposed to a high school or something.
I think I even got those alerts when we had the tropical storm but I'm not sure. I just remember I've gotten the alerts before. I'm definitely glad they do because I made a point to avoid that general area that day after getting the alert.

It seems like no place is safe anymore. A person just wants to stay inside and pull a blanket up over their head. You hope your student knows enough to be on the lookout and also knows enough to take care and not be too vulnerable.

Why do these people do these terrible things? Do laws need to be even more harsh to stop this kind of thing? Hope it all ends well. Thanks for the great post today.
