What you hear may not be true

On the Morning after the election, Hubby came rushing out of the bedroom about three in the morning. He was so mad he couldn't even speak. What he had heard on the TV was that Romney had won the popular vote by many million votes, but because Obama had won the electral votes he had won the race. It took me several hours to talk him out of this anger and I am not sure he doesn't still believe this incorrect statement was true. I know that our election practices are not easy to understand and the system needs to be explained much more often then it is. But I also know the power of bad information given through the media. Many times things reported are just not true. It make you wonder if it wouldn't be better to go back to earlier times when the newpapers reported the news.

The first thing that I was taught when I really started watching the news; reading newspapers and looking at things online.. Check your sources.. If there is only one or two sources that are saying the same thing.. But that is all its proably not true.. Espeically when it has to do with the election. If there is anything that is going on it would be plaster all over all of the media..
We want to be able to believe everything that we see and read.. But there are too many lies and games being played in all kinds of subjects to just believe just a couple sources..
I would rather have information that is wrong then not knowing anything at all.. In the end I am the one that has to decide if the information is believeable or not.. Or get someone's elses opinion on it..

For a while, I used to work as a media observer in my country, and my task was to watch news and write them down... and I saw news programs from several channels, which are backed by various parties and believers and supporters of them, and it was shocking how differently they interpreted the same statisics and news, and all those lies... when it's politics, unfortunately, you can never be 100% about that you see on Tv or hear on radio is true, because they word the news and say stuff to make their party to look better and the people whom they support to look more prominent and better for the country. It's horrible.

The same misinformation is found in today's newspapers as is on TV. Incidentally, which thing was he upset about? Obama being re-elected or Romney getting the popular vote? Just curious.

Your topic is very broad. You should retitled this like: Did Romney won popular vote? or Is it true that Mitt won popular vote? or Still understanding US election results...
I was following the election results on few different channels. Somehow I came across the report that Mitt Romney won popular vote moments after Barack Obama was declared to win reelection for winning more than 270 of electoral votes.
I wasn't sure if Mitt winning popular votes was really making sense to me. At the time, I believe people were still counting votes. Mitt Romney probably won popular votes for just a moment like he was leading by a few numbers of electoral votes earlier.

I am not in USA, I do not know the true conditions there. But in my country, things are worse. As a mature adult, I have never had a chance to vote. Most people in my country do not have the right to vote even it is regulated in the constitution.
What shall I say? Silence may be is the best answer..

Hi savypat, We just need more honesty in broadcasting. Even after Obama had won 275 seats I heard that Fox was still saying that Romney could win,and was talking about lawsuits etc. Wouldn't it be great if both sides would stop the lies and attack adds and just tell everyone what they would do differently to solve the country's problems. It seems our politicians are just that politicians and I think we all know what that word has come to mean. Blessings.

It is kinda difficult to believe everything that you hear but sometimes when we expect something and turns out to be the opposite, it could really be a start of your bad day. Misinformation could be a problem really. That is why we need responsible journalism at all times.

Well, the media gets a lot of things wrong. But as we know now, Obama not only won the election, but also the popular vote as well. Romney was nothing more then a puppet for the right. He had no chance in winning. America did not want to see a corporate guru run the country. It is big business that got us in this shape to begin with.

Yah, I used to believe all the information that the media had given, but when one of my friends who had an experienced in journalism I've changed my belief and realized that not all that is being stated or being talked are not all true some of them are just a lie or wrong information.
