What does it mean for a wife to be in submission to her husband?

Upon marriage, the wife agrees to be always submissive to her husband. And I suppose that this should entail the meaning on being supportive of the wife to the needs and wants of a husband. But this ends when a husband becomes abusive, of course.

Yes a wife should be in submission to her husband as the bible clearly states, but no where in the bible does it say that a man should beat his wife or not listen to her input when it comes to making decisions. In fact in one part of the Bible God instructs Abraham to listen to & heed his wife's advice. So although we are supposed to be in submission to & respect our husbands they in turn need to respect us as well.

Hi,
In my opinion, it all started when Eve, in the Garden of Eden, took to herself the temptation of the Devil and dragged Adam with it. The woman should have consulted Adam first and Adam should have contacted God before doing anything about the proposal and everything could have resulted in a very different story.
Husbands, being the primary leaders of the family should be consulted first before an important undertaking is to be done. Husbands, for that matter, should be very responsible persons too in order for the wife to merit her submission or else, women's liberation shall surely kick into the scene.
A house with a weak leader is surely likely to fall down. It is not that I downgrade a woman's leadership but in terms of family matters, it is always the husband that should always take the reins, pointing them in the right direction, before delegating it to his wife. Failure to do this, for one reason or another, often result in a not so desirable condition for the family and for the society in general.
