Career move or stay with your current job? High pay or the people around you?

I am contemplating about changing job. I just want to know different opinion on this. Let's say you are in my situation. I am currently in job that has a low pay, but the people are around me are good, even the bosses. Been with the company for three years. However, due to evolving demand of life, I want to apply for job that has a higher pay. The catch is I have to start all over again from scratch. 1. Low pay + good people + salary is just enough to support family needs = ? 2. High pay + start from scratch with new company + can buy your wants and support the needs of your family = ?

Honestly most likely the people at the high paying job will be nice too. Also when you go for your interview you can always scope out the office environment and see what you think. I feel that it is important you like your job since you spend so much of your life there. It is also important though that you take chances in life. I'd go for the new job and if you're not happy find another high paying job. Eventually when your kids go to college you'll be glad you did.

You are right Sindelle. I'll do that once I've decided whether to go or not. Thanks.

if you're going to start from the bottom, might as well choose a job you really like or interested in or have the brains/talent/skill for or willing to train in. then imagine your career path in that job. can you see yourself evolving or can you see it branching out into other industries? this way at least you're excited and enjoying yourself and likely to stay for the long haul even if you will have to start from scratch. good luck!

Maybe that's my mistake from the beginning. I accepted a job that doesn't interest me. I just got it to have a job when I graduated from college. I'll consider this things. Thanks!

Ask for God's guidance and let Him lead the way. You should decide for yourself and for the best. Sometimes, salary is deceiving and you end up regretting taking that high-paying job. There are so many factors you should consider and not just the salary alone. Honestly, it's hard to resist a job with a whooping high salary but like what I have said, don't rush for it because if it's yours, it will be yours. Think, pray and listen to your heart.

Yes. That is what I have on my mind. I might regret transferring, and might not be regularized. I pray to god to show me the right way. Trials really makes us smarter :)

Well you have to decide what's more important. Family needs and wants or happiness at your job. I was and still am in the same situation and have decided happiness over a job and will be quitting probably soon. I also am almost. 8 months pregnant so that may have a factor but nevertheless my families happiness stems from everyone being happy and the only one this is really affecting me. My son won't care whether I stay working or not nether does my husband. And financially my husbands job thankfully can cover all our bills. Now we can't live crazy but we live our life and thats enough for us.

Hi Ferdsie, In my opinion, I would say , you must first check the prioritisation for things. Now you think that people are very good around you, but who knows they might also soon leave the company for a better opportunity. Similarly staying in a job just for this reason wont make you enhance your potential personally. Shifting jobs often tends an employer to think that you are not a reliable person to work with. At the same time being in a company for so long will also not boost your capabilities. You wont get good exposure in multiple fields as your skillsets become stagnant. If there is a learning opportunity around, and at the same time if the new job is going to give you more income, why not try a different one? It is also possible that the people in the new company be more friendly or as friendly as the current company peers are. So all the best and try your luck in a new company where you can enhance both your financial status and also abilities.

Weight the benefits your are getting aside from the pay you are getting. There are companies who give lower salaries and wages but with unmatched benefits. What is your company's practice? If both your pay and benefits don't pay for your needs, then it's time to look for another job. However, in the process of doing so, consider your marketability. Do you have what it takes to demand for a higher pay and good benefits? Or should I say are you in that level already in your current job where you can demand for higher compensation when looking for a greener pasture? Some would consider investing time in the company first to learn and gather more experiences and impressive accomplishments to be globally competitive for a higher pay rate. When you look for a job, the head hunters will not look on your salary grade first but how your portfolio looks like and what you have done for the company the it's shareholders. Always remember that anyone who hires you are investing on you skills and capabilities so they want to make sure they are getting their money's worth.

Thank you for you great advise. You surely have a point there. I can't say that I am the best, but I am good at what I do. I received awards from the companies that I've been to. Though this is not the gauge that shows you are good, but this may indicate that I did well. Thanks again for the advise.

Hi friend, welcome to mylot. It is really hard to miss the good people, however we are in need to face the economic position, so there is nothing wrong in moving with the high pay job, so join with the new company which offer you a good salary and keep in touch with your friends using cell and emails. All the best

As far as i am concerned, obiviously i will choose the second one without hesitation. Are you afraid of starting from new?? You just have experienced once after graduation. Many times you may be offered new pojects or take over someone's work based on your original position, in which situation you still should learn more fresh things. It's just a common place for everyone!! Considering the good relationship with partners, i think all of you can still keep in touch after you transfer. Maybe you will meet more friendly guys in a new company. The last but not the least is the money. I think that is the factor you should put into your consideration. Money is one of the motivation for your upgrading. A higher payment will also reveal that the employer appreciates you more and want you to join in their family. Above is just my personal view for your reference. May you work happily sincerely!!
