What really is the difference between The Old Covenant and The New Covenant?

In the book of the prophet Jeremiah 31:31 it was prophesied about the coming days when God will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.
Sure enough, our Lord Jesus as well as the apostle Paul spake of the New Covenant, a proof that it was fulfilled. But my dilemma is, what really is the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant?

In a word: Grace. Two words? Grace, mercy. God did forgive people under the Old Testament law, but it was not easily obtained. When Jesus became the sacrifice that offered forgiveness to all who would believe, He also "broke down the wall" and offered it to ALL who believed and not just the Jews. Until Jesus, the Hebrew nation had been the sole keepers of the Word of the true God.
The New Covenant opens the communication between God and common people. No one needs stand between anyone and God, as the priests used to have to do to keep them safe.

The old testament was full of rules that kept you in line, even then people didn't follow the rules so God had to make a new covenant with his people. He sent a savior, as a man, as a son so that those who believed in a flesh and blood God would have eternal life. It wasn't until Jesus walked on earth did we have a chance in Heaven to see God face to face.

Hi gitfiddleplayer greetings. Your comment is most assuredly welcome. You are right in saying that a New Covenant is necessary (Heb. 8:8). But this time, God is offering us the gift of the Holy spirit, that we may be partakers of His divine power and divine nature through faith in Jesus Christ. God Bless.

The Old Covenant, as we know it, refers to the agreement laid down by God between Himself and Israel through Moses at Mt. Horeb when He gave the Ten Commandments and the Mosaic Law for them to observe.
The New Covenant, on the other hand, refers to the agreement laid down by God between Himself and the believers of Christ, regardless of being a Jew or Gentile. Under this covenant, the law of Christ reigns supreme.
However, do you know that there is an earlier covenant made by God with Abraham when He instituted circumcision? When He said that, through Abraham, God will make a great nation whom Abraham will father.
