I can't think of the things name exactly but it's one of those "As Seen on Tv" sort of things. You are supposed to take a tortilla and form it to the pan, bake it, and it should turn into a taco salad shaped shell like they have at the restaurants. I was wondering if it was worth the money. I had wanted to try it but like most I'm watching my money. But I also have a coupon that exp's Monday for $5 off 10 for a craft store and that was the only thing of true interest that the coupon would apply to. So I thought what they hey I'll ask the wonderful people on mylot if they've tried that pan.

I've never tried the As Seen On TV version. Whenever we do taco salads, I just use my muffin pan. You can turn one upside down and bake the shells between the cups. http://www.savvyhousekeeping.com/make-your-own-taco-bowls-with-a-muffin-tin/

WOW! You know, I saw that thing on TV and again in a store and tried to think of alternatives. I tried to think how I could use a muffin pan but never thought to turn it upside down! I'm glad there are people that can think outside the box. Thank you for sharing that site!

You know I honestly want to say I've heard of that as the idea rings a bell. Thanks for the reminder/idea and saving me a few dollars in the process.

I saw that thing too, and we did purchase it. So far, we've only used it twice, but it's definitely an unique thing. You just have to be sure that you cook the shells long enough. The time I did use it, I didn't let them bake long enough. I ended up wearing the meat sauce while I was eating.

Yeah, this is a thing that you definately have to make sure you bake crispy..not burnt but crispy...adding the meat and stuff will make it soggy so you have to eat it fast from the bottom! I love tacos, tostadas and taco salads!

That's a good tip to make sure they are baked long enough. I imagine that was a bit of a mess then on your clothing you weren't expecting.

Have heard of it before, but I have never thought about getting one of them. I have seen before where you can take the little tortillas and make them using a muffin tin. If I wanted a taco salad I would probably just make mini ones that way instead of spending the money on the mold. If you were going to be making taco salads for several people I could see how it could come in handy though.

I haven't used it but it sounds interesting. If it is an "As Seen om Tv" product..be careful. I had a couple of not so great experiences with that stuff. There is a store that just opened up here that sells As seen on Tv stuff that constantly tempts me though

It is a great invention. I use mine all the time and it is much healthier. I make tacos, pizza and dessert bowls with them. It is a great investment. Which craft store gave you a great deal? I know this weekend I will go to JoAnn's because military gets 20 percent off and Randy was in the military.

I would like one but I dont' like ordering online. I have looked at Joann's and they don't have them. But I hadn't thought about what the person below here said..use a cupcake pan to make little ones. I am going to try that. The big ones are good tho..Carl's Jr fast food has one on the menu and I order it with steak and it is GREAT! Granted, the shell is the best part... I went one time and ordered on (to go) and asked for another shell and the sold me one for a buck..I dont' know how they fry them, but they are so good! I was going to make tacos tomorrow with corn tortillas, but I think I'll try the flour ones this way too. I did create a "taco pizza" coupld weeks ago.. I baked the flour tortilla, then made my special bean dip (refried beans, salsa, olives, onions and cheese) and spread that on the baked tortilla, sprinkled with cheese, heated to melt the cheese and then cut pizza style...it is SOOOO good and oh, don't forget more salsa to dip in!

If you are making your tortilla from scratch, I would think that you could drape the dough over a metal bowl and bake until done. This may be a healthy alternative to frying. I happen to like fried better than baked, but if health issues limit eating fried foods, this may be an alternative way to create the tortilla bowl. I would think that the gadget would be a good investment if it didn't cost a lot of money, or it you planned to use it often enough that the investment would pay off.
