I remember when I would recycle my clothes that didn't fit or didn't wear anymore, or clothes that my children had outgrown to a place that would pay you a certain amount of money per pound. It was a good way to sort out clothes that we never used and make some extra money. We recycle scrap metal and we get some extra money that way. Do you recycle and what do you recycle? If you recycle do you do it for extra money or is it just habit?

I recycle many things at home. I don`t do it directly for money, but it amounts to money at the end. If I use as rags an old T shirt, I will not have to buy a cloth to wash the car or to clean the floor. If I give a dress or blouse I don`t use to a friend, the friend, or another one, will give me something to wear sometime. I think it is mostly habit, as I don`t like to throw anything away if it can be useful.

Old t-shirts and towels are the best for re-using for this or that. Dusting mainly. And my husband uses them for car work...sometimes a paper towel just won't cut it!

I do save lots of odds and ends and save a lot that way. I discovered some time ago that it wasn`t worth it waSHING the plastic curtain I HAVE IN THE SHOWER IF IT GOT TOO MOLDY. sO i BUY ANOTHER (VERY CHEAP) but I use the plastic to take care of my plants in Winter and prevent them from freezing.
Sorry for the caps. I fount out after it was written

I agree with you, I'm always saving old t-shirts to use as cleaning rags. My husband is great for taking things apart and saving screws and nails and that definitely saves money because you don't have to buy them new at a store. Thanks for joining in this discussion!

We recycle for money and habit. When I was growing up (and plastic wasn't around beyond 2ltr bottles) my Mother dumpster dove for extra money by fishing out cans. I've always recycled our cans and the few I see in the parking lots but I never made as much money as my Mother did doing it.
The only place that sells clothes that I'm aware of by the pound is a charity shop that when things don't sell they sell them by the lb to places overseas.

Yes you are right just as being raised with financial struggles you learn ways to survive and make due. Recycling various items was common before the industrial age as sometimes money as well as materials were not always easy to come by.

I agree with you, I think when you first start recycling it becomes habit and then you find out that there are places you can go and make money off your recyclables. I also think that if you're brought up recycling through family or friends itcomes as a habit. Thanks for joining in this discussion!

we recycle for nearly everything: old t.v set, mattresses, plastics, metals etc. it is sort of a big industry here only that the people who go from street to street looking for old items seem to make one think the industry doesn't pay. i believe it pays only that the collectors are used to carrying and handling dirt, so they end up looking like their job description.

About the only thing I recycle regularly to get money from is aluminum cans. I have recycled some metal and a battery or two but don't have access to those things now.
I do, however, recycle a lot by reusing or repurposing everything that I can. If I can't make money, at least I'll save it.

Oh, definitely! I recycle the plastic bags that I get from stores for liners in our small trash cans. Thanks for joining in this discussion!

We dont' drink enough soda to keep the cans...a 12 pack lasts us a month! We just don't drink soda. And we buy a case of water, but with the water filter on my fridge..we just wash and refill the bottles a few times...but there again...we throw away maybe 12 bottles a month, although some we keep for re-use of other things. I do take back to the store the grocery t-shirt plastic bags..I'll bag them up for about a month and then take them next shopping trip.

We recycle almost everything that we can but we don't get money for it. Most of the recycling programs pick up stuff from your alley.

I do recycle bottles from mayonaise, coffee jars, boxes from appliance items and papers from flyers from the mall. I even ask for some unused flyers if I can. :) I love recyclying papers because I use the back of it as a notepad. I always have a notepad in my bag and here at our office table. :) As to the boxes and bottles, it is a good one rather than buying plastic jars for salts, and other items that needs to be put in a container. We sell the plastic bottles and jars after some time that it had been deteriorated. Junkshops buy those plastic bottles per kilo. Tin cans from sardines and corned beef can be sold too.
Recycling is nice. You get to save on buying plastic jars containers and help the environment at the same time.

Other then at my place of employment I regret to say I do not recycle. I live in an apartment complex that does not have recycle bins. There is also not a recycling center near by that I can drop off items. I've thought about recycling clothing though. I have so many clothes I no longer wear that someone else could use. I like helping the environment and the extra money would be a nice perk as well.

That's the hard part about apartment living...you can't do things like this...I was in apt's before, and there is just no room! Must as we'd like to recycle...just can't do it.
Clothes, I collect in a box or something and take them to this local thrift store...which is a great place to shop too! I'd have a yard sale and what didn't sell and I didn't want to keep, I'd call a place called "Disabled Vets"...and they came and picked it up and then they resold it to help disabled veterans.

Now that I think about it of all the apartments I've lived at only one had a recycling program. That's a lot of unnecessary waste. I wish they had some sort of law that made them put recycling bins up at all apartment complexes. I'm positive people would use them.

I pay attention to the environment. I like recycling because I can not only earn extra money from it, but also I can do something good for the environment since they can be recycled. They are not a totally waste any more. In the past the glass bottles are also recycled. But here it is not available any more and I don't like it at all. Usually I will recycle the plastic bottles, newspaper, magazines etc.

I do some recycling. My pop cans for sure....I save them and donate them. If I am going to the grocery store I donate them to the boy scouts....if I am going to Walmart I donate them to Habitate for Humanity. I give my old clothes to charity too. Its nice as one comes right to the house and picks them up!

I do recycle and I've been doing it for a long time for a variety of different reasons. I've recycled aluminum cans for as long as I can remember because of the fact that we are able to get paid per pound of aluminum that is recycled, so that is done for the extra cash. We recycle at home because our city does provide us with recycling recepticles right at our homes. Also, we have a habit of passing on clothes that the kids and I no longer need because of the fact that they still have a lot of use left in them and it just seems like the right thing to do for me instead of throwing away clothes that are no longer needed.

my mom collect can, bottle, paper etc and she can earn from it in exchange for those recyclable thingy, by selling it to whom ever wants to buy it. it's better that way we save earth for our little action.
and as for me, if have tight clothes i keep them, and if there were too many of it i give them as charity.

its my passion doing art and recycling just one of it. i often save bottles and decorate it then sell it and another thing i do to old clothes is cut it and put in in the other clothe make new design and sell it. if i have old skirt and 1 boxer shirt i just sew them to make a dress and i get 1 to 2 bucks out of it and its pretty good doing what i want while i can earn bit money out of it
