Can windows 7 be converted to windows vista

United States

I got a laptop that came with Windows 7 already on it. I don't like windows 7 and really don't like the laptop compared to the one I retired. The other was so much more user friendly. Is it possible to go to Vista even if there is Windows 7 on the laptop..without having to buy a copy of Windows Vista?

as you said you don't like window 7...then you should try win 8 rather using vista..may be you like vista because of its appearance. But i want to assure you when you will use Win 8..you will forget all the previous versions of windows. Thanks

I guess Microsoft has already closed official support for Vista - which again is another reason NOT to opt for Vista. If you already have a copy of the Operating System, you might go for it but then, Vista is one of the most horrible operating systems from Microsoft since XP and like others I would strongly suggest that you stick with windows 7. It has similar features like Vista and I guess as it is new to you, you are finding it a little cumbersome. That happens but trust me, Windows 7 is much better in terms of performance than Vista. Also, your newer Laptop might not be Vista Friendly, so in case you still want to have Vista, please consult the Technical Support for the Laptop.

I had to smile when you said there is no "official" support for Vista anymore. I never had to ask support for Windows Vista. and I am sure that if I would have had need to. I could have asked any one on the tech blogs and someone would gladly supply an answer to any questions I may have had about Vista.. I havent sought support for 7 either. I just don't like its look..

Actually it means Microsoft will no longer release software updates and patches for Vista so if there's a new vulnerability discovered MS won't do anything about it.

#littlefranciscan Well, if it is only the looks the you can try to find if they have a Vista Transformation Pack(s) available anywhere on the internet for Windows 7. I am sure the transformation pack would help change the interface to Vista. These arent official releases from any Organization and are available for free on Cnet or softpedia and even others. I had installed one on Windows XP to make it look like Vista - though today, I dont have any Microsoft and prefer to stick with Ubuntu and Fedora. #Silentwill: Thanks mate for chipping in and helping me out. Yes, this is what I intended to say when I mentioned - MS has closed official support for Vista

No, you cannot revert to Windows Vista from a Windows 7 laptop. Even if you bought a copy of Windows Vista you would need to do a fresh install, which would remove all personal files and all installed siftware. I find it very surprising that you would prefer Windows Vista to Windows 7. Windows 7 is really an improved version with all the problems of Windows Vista eliminated, and it also requires less system resources so should run faster.

I find this surprising. In fact this is probably the first time for me to encounter somebody preferring Vista over 7. I do not exactly know what your problem with Windows 7 OS is but I know for a fact Windows 7 is just way better than Vista in most cases. Still, if that is your choice, I cannot force you. I just hope you give this thought more time and maybe get around Windows 7 more to see just how much better 7 is. To answer your question, there is no way to revert from 7 to Vista unless you upgraded it from Vista originally. By upgrading, you get the option to do system backup that way you could use system restore in case of failures or in your case just not liking it. However, if it was originally Windows 7, as you have described then the only way to have it run to Vista is to make a fresh install of the operating system in it.

It's impossible. I think Vista is not good, Windows 7 is better.

why do you think Windows 7 is better than Vista. Other than making a whole different layout.. they both have same stuff. .I found Vista easier.

I think it is possible to change to Windows Vista from windows 7... without having to buy a copy of Windows Vista but with one important condition: Your laptop is licensed for the OS Windows 7. I am telling you this because my laptop is licensed with the OS Windows Vista. The company which manufactured my laptop allowed me to download, free of charge, Windows 7 from their website. All I need to do is to input the serial number of my laptop. But I suggest don't downgrade to Windows Vista because Windows 7 is better than Windows Vista.

Can Window 7 be converted to Window Vista? The answer is definitely no. The only way you can revert back to Window Vista is to buy a new copy of Vista and freshly install it. Windows Vista is used only by 6.05% of total OS users and Microsoft ended mainstream support for it last April 10, 2012 while Windows 7 is currently the leader surpassing Windows XP with 44.04% of market share. Give yourself more time to feel the awesomeness of Windows 7 and once you feel at home using its interface I am sure you will find it graphics and speed wonderful. Have a nice day. Ciao!

Windows7 is the Upgraded version of the windows vista. So windows 7 must has its advantage as compared with windows vista. In general, the windows vista in your laptop is genuine.Do you want to uninstall the genuine windows 7 to install the pirated windows vista or to spend the money which can get a new laptop on the genuine windows vista.Further windows 8 has appeared on the market, which is a whole new production as compared with the old windows.
