alcohol at work ??

hi guys, I AM a software engineer. and as you would know programming is very hectic and stressful work. with lot of time lines to meet, work gets a little hectic. many of our co-workers feel, we should be allowed to take a limited amount of alcohol at work,. as we spend all our time with our systems in cabins, without speaking to others, drinking would not spoil the environment. in some companies site engineers are allowed to consume beer. 1 or 2 pegs would make us feel bit relaxed at work. or at least beer should be allowed. many guys consume little alcohol during stressed hours, and they work for long hours. I feel alcohol can never be consumed in limit, consumption would keep on increasing daily. but management is considering the request. What do you guys think ?

They let us drink during work hours. The only rules are that you can't be doing things like fixing engines that would put lives at risk if you're drinking while at work or you can only have a limited amount during your break. It hasn't presented any sort of problem yet. Hopefully if they do allow people at your place of employment to work they don't go crazy. Sometimes when you allow something like that people go crazy at first. Besides I'm sure if they did allow people to drink while at work they will not be allowed to walk around sloppy drunk.
While I don't see any harm in drinking at work within reason I think its also sad they feel it is necessary to drink in order to relax. Maybe your employer should also consider some sort of training seminar about stress management.

Hi Damanpreetsngh,
I really don't think it is a good idea at all. You will have some who would go by the guidelines and only have one or two but there will be a bunch that will take advantage and sneak more in. Since they are working on their own then who is to know that they have had more than one or two? The company is liable if someone drinks to much and leves and causes an accident. The fact that they even allow drinking on the job is apt to increase insurance is a good enough reason to say no to this policy. Lots of jobs are pretty stressful and how many do you know of that are ok with drinking on the job?? If the job is too stressful then maybe they should just go find another job.

If you are a driver, it is not right to drink before working. As you are a software engineer, if you can work well after drinking, there is no problem.
Drinking is a good way to deal with stress, after drinking some people can be full of energy and work with happy emotion.
If you can control yourself well, it is a good way to deal with the problem.

that would be a horrible and terrible idea for sure,its utter waste and more over not a interesting combo,as it will make our brain limited and thinking power shrinks drastically

hi,i agree with you,but the "limited" is importent.i think drink in night or weekday will be better,you doesn't think too much .such as weather i drinked too much or otherthing,but in night or weekday you can drink relaxed.good luck!having a good time
