Can I take my hand made crafts in my hand luggage on the plane?

Hi all I wondered if anybody knows if I can carry some hand made crafts onto my hand luggage or will I have to pay the airline for hold luggage? My crafts I make are for Christmas and birthday presents and re made from polymer clay and metal brooch backs, are the brooches deemed as dangerous weapons or can I take some of them with me in my hand luggage or will the security ask me to remove them and will they be left behind? I don't think I could handle them being thrown away or left behind after all the work I put into them. Any advice would be appreciated.
