The biggest tip is the price. Pure or genuine honey is very expensive. Please realize that ALL honey goes through a pasteurization process before it is packaged for sale to the public. One of the biggest reasons is because of botulism which is in all honey. If you read the labels for content you will see the ingredients which by law has to be true. The government does check the labeling on all food products, this is done at random and it is from the stock on the store shelves. Also, to be sure of the product, make sure that you buy a reputable brand name, like Sue Bee honey. The United States has a truth in labeling act that demands that the companies list the ingredients and that they are listed by the amount of each ingredient. The lesser the amount the lower on the ingredient listing. Also, you can go to the health food stores or a organic market. We have a local organic store that is wonderful for produce, honey, bulk foods and more. It is a wonderful magical place to me and I spend a lot of time there. I have always loved being able to buy my food from bulk food bins...to me it tastes a lot better not having been in contact with plastic bags, cans, boxes etc for undetermined amounts of time. I hope I've helped you some, I personally can't use honey because of my allergy to bee stings and honey. I miss it because it is so much better than using sugar.

My grandma always told us that if the honey freezes when put inside the freezer and if the honey attracts ants it is fake.

In the past I learned a method to tell whether the honey is pure or not. In the winter when it is cold, the real honey will not be frozen. If it is frozen and doesn't look like liquid, it is likely that this honey is not so pure.

The only way that I've ever been able to tell whether or not a honey that I was buying was of a good quality is based on the thickness of the fluid. If a honey is something that is highly processed it won't be nearly as thick with the final product. However, a honey that is more pure is going to be very thick. That said, I choose to buy all of the honey that we ever have in our house from local beekeepers because I know that it will be something that our family will enjoy and it is also certified to be organic honey and that is something that I do look for.

Honey is genuine if it taste sweet ..LOl ! I guess it is hard to to tell , better ask the vendor selling it if they're selling the pure one. Some good , honest vendor will tell the truth except for some who take advantage over the other's ignorance.
