Just like Birthdays, diwali comes once in a year..
But for every B'day we buy & cut different types of cakes. Or do different kinds of celebration.. Like for one B'day we celebrate with family, next B'day with Friends and then with Orphan kids and another B'day at a tourist spot..!!
And on every B'day we get different kinds of Gifts...
But Diwali, i had been watching is event for over more than 2 decades, same old Celebration. I mean, same old crackers.. No improvement.. Its Worst...
For me, now its been over 7 yrs here in Chennai when i last celebrated diwali by not busting crackers.. Its monotonous.. Same old bijili, same old Atom bombs, same old flower pots and same old Standard/peacock fire manufactures..
Nothing new with anything..
15 yrs ago, i stayed at Dehradun, which was just a valley down at Uttarpradesh (now a Capital for a state), i celebrated diwali very happily.. I used to get variety of Crackers there in North.. i remember those old gold days..
But here in Chennai, which is close to Sivakasi, a hub for manufacturing Firecrackers, i dont get much variety of firecrackers.. Sad.. Very sad... Useless and under-rated cracker products..
Last yr i heard about Chinese crackers which were said told be in very demand in shops.. Becos of this reason, this yr i planned to buy some chinese crackers.. But here in Chennai, i didt even find the best home made crackers 'the Standard' brand.. And about Chinese, uh, didt even smell about it anywer.. Shops and media says its banned...
But i was getting news for Delhi and pune that Chinese crackers are available there..!!
Ok of Chinese are banned, i dont understand y Sivakasi cant manufacture some new Crackers..
SO people, if u selecting Chennai for ur life, NO NO NO... Definitely avoid this City.. This one is a worst city.. U wont get most of the things.. Just branded cloths and some electronics are available.. But nothing else... I might get after a long struggle..
Chennai is worst and horrible..
Chennai is my home town and i got no other option to move on and so i am suffering.. Others if planning to settle here, BETTER AVOID....

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u are absolutely right, many of my friends who are based in Chennai have complained the same thing that life is simply boring in Chennai. People are so much into their professional lives that they hardly care about any festival be it our national festival Diwali. They even do not take interest in celebrating any festival or occasion and just run after making money. Even the food is not good over there besides the climate is too bad. This was the reason i left my job based in Chennai.
What say?

Dear subhojit,
Well thats one valuable point my friends - "They even do not take interest in celebrating any festival or occasion and just run after making money".
That 200% true here. Not even selfs but the corporate office dont provide leaves or work relaxations..
Best example is my Dad - he used to enjoy his life when were at dehradun.. Well we are basically from Chennai and it was our dad's official transfer to Dehradun which made us to stay there for over a decade.. Very enjoyable place.. He used to leave for office by 10am and back home by not more than 6pm..
But after coming here (2nd transfer), he got promotion and money and office over load made him mad for work at office.. He started leaving home by 9am and used to come back only between 9pm and 12pm..!!
He even used to work from 9am to 6pm on Dewali here..
Valid point my friend..
I even see a lots of men and women going for offices on Holidays, festive days like Pongal and even on some govt holidays like 26th jan and 15th aug.. Worst..
Well Food is ok.. There are 4 to 5 large shopping malls here but all have same kind of brand shops. Nothing new in that too... And weather is too bad as u said..
Being a Tamil born guy and a Chennaite, i hate this city..

Maybe Chennai has something different to offer which might be unique for those who live there. Explore and have fun
