Today the festival of Diwali is being celebrated in our country. I have had quite a few visitors at home today and all of them have brought some kind of sweets for me. Since there is no one to share the sweets I will surely end up putting on some weight just tasting what is given to me. From tomorrow at work too friends will be bringing sweets. Soon after will be Christmas and then again festivity and eating. Will have to exercise more to keep myself fit and healthy.

This is how I started to gain weight- festive season :xx
It all stared on our birthdays- many of us celebrating our birthdays on the month of November.
Then came December and New year - more sweets, more foods- more weight

You have already gained weight,so better to avoid sweets, try if you can
I have diabetes, but to be honest for last 4 days i am taking different kind of sweets; some are supposed to have prepared with 'sugar-free'; but i doubt..
Today is 'bhai-deuz', my 'didi' has invited all to eat in the evening; am sure there will be many sweets and sweet dishes

I have not been eating too many sweets as I have been very busy these days and not made anything at home. I have low sugar so dont have to worry all that much. Ensure I check my sugar count every two months or so. Hope you have had an enjoyable Diwali.

Oh my, sweets...
Today is Diwali, next month is Christmas, then next next month is new year.
The diet you took for how many months was all gone in just one festival.
For some, it's easy to gain weight. To others, even though how much they eat, they don't gain weight. Wish I could be that somebody.

Hi friend, Diwali wishes to you. I too received a lot of gift items and sweets for this Diwali and enjoying it with my family members. This kind of festival time is the best way to show our real care and affection to our friends, so don't worry about the weight and enjoy a lot with your friends, as you mentioned we can reduce the weight by doing exercise, so do it and reduce the excess weight

Best wishes to you and your family too. I have been gorging on sweets these past few days. The weight will start showing very soon I am sure. And then again the Christmas festivities will start. Not forgetting the marriage season which will also start soon. Will need to exercise quite a bit I think.

Ha ha on diwali it is quite natural to bring sweets by visitors. I have sweets at home kept as untouched. Kids are having only those items they liked. Earlier I don’t eat sweets, now I also started to eat sweets. But on gaining weight, it is not a problem for me as I am already underweight.
You know what I will do, distribute if any one comes at home, I will finish those sweets in that way. I can’t eat much sweet.
If you are worrying on gaining weight, should control your eating habit especially sweets. Yes, exercise is another alternative.

The fact people bring you sweeties doesn't mean you have to eat them all at once or? You are not able to safe a part for later? Food can also be made/prepared with less calories and even if you do not so there is no reason to eat till you feel like a stuffed animal. Also a good tip might be (since you know when the celebrations or dinners etc are) to eat less at the day(s) before and after. It works fine and this way you won't gain weight and can really enjoy the festivals.

It is a custom here when one visits friends and relatives during festival traditional sweets are bought. These if cooked in the traditional way are full of fats and calories. Since I live alone there is little I can do about the sweets other than eating them. I do distribute as much as I can to my colleagues. But the little that I eat shows up at the waist some day.

Yes, same thing happens to use during thanksgiving and xmas holidays. We get invited to so many parties... and of course we eat all that junk food. But boy do we have fun. Have a great time with your festival there.

Absolutely agree. Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas are just one after the other. All types of sweets that you never seen before coming out during this season. Cookies and chocolates are everywhere in the office. Stores display varieties of chocolates and cookies. Definitely is going to gain some weight just by tasting it little here and there every time. Need to pay attention to how many pieces of cookies or chocolates that I already eat for the day. Then the festive continue with celebration in the office, Christmas party, department year-end gathering, etc.
In addition, the weather here supports us to gain weight. Winter season is not a friendly season for sports. The coldness makes us lazy to go to gym. We can't go outside and play ball, or jog. Then there is flu season.

I know this festival. Was already here in Dubai when I encountered the Diwali festival. Almost all groceries and malls have sweets being sold and the ambience was very festive. You can see smile on a lot of faces. I didn't get to buy some sweets since I'm on a very strict diet. I'm sure that next year I can participate in the Diwali festival by eating lots of sweets.

Mayka, hope you have a very wonderful Diwali celebration with your family and friends. Same like you, i always gain weight during festival and special celebration time. That's the time, where i got the chance to eat nice and delicious food, which i can't resist the temptation. But, i always try my best to drink plenty of water and go jogging whenever i am free. I make sure that i don't overeat as well. After all, taking care of my health is always my first priority.

hello there mayka123,
first of all, happy diwali. i just remember my indian friends, they used to bring sweets and shared it to other colleagues. i remember the dates and the sweet prunes that we used to ate before. it was a happy celebration. i just wonder if they can send it to me across
anyway, i am quite too far from them now so i guess, they can't send a box of sweets for me to eat here. i will just imagine it maybe.

Hi mayka,I don't know whether you would call me fortunate or unfortunate if I tell you that I never put on weight. My weight has been 54 kgs for years and it neither increases nor decreases no matter what I eat and in what amount.I want to put on a little more weight so that whatever I wear suits me,but all my efforts resulted in naught.By the way,I eat only once in 24 hrs.I take only my dinner at 9.30 pm.No breakfast,no lunch.Only a cup of tea in the morning enables me to keep working for the whole day.I take another cup of tea in the evening. That's all.I have no physical problem whatsoever. So it doesn't matter whether it is Diwali or Christmas and how much sweets I take.My weight is going to remain constant at 54 kgs.

More amuzing is we start the coundown of festivals. We start to feel kinda unexpressed excitement thinking that we are getting our sensational moments. Along with we start to prepare mentaly financialy. At last festival comes and we enjoy it irrespective of age, male or female. I would say if there would not be festivals, we would suffer from scarcity of real recreation. Festivals are part our life. We cant ignore them. Wish you all enjoy diwalli.

You're right about that. It's such a nice feeling whenever there are festivities that you can get together with family and friends. But along with that, you also have foods to share that of course, you can't avoid eating, thus, here comes gain weight! :)
But its ok, as long as you had fun with your loved ones and enjoyed the holiday together, its alright. Just have to work and extra hour or two on the threadmill! :)
