I use Blogger. I have an article when I was first using Blogger. I wrote " Troubles in Blogging. Finally I found out that it is easy to use. Send me a message if you want to read my articles about blogging in Blogger.

Why not weebly.com?
You get free website + free blog + easy to use, drag and drop interface for creating content.
Weebly is great, you should try it.
Only limitation is that your site will be in this format:
nameofthesite.weebly.com (not real link, just example)

considering you want just promote may be it can be a personal choice in general i like much more wordpress because they gives you much more instruments to improve your won blog and even the design and the final result looks much more professional than the blogger style....

Will you go for free hosting+domain or paid hosting+domain?
If you choose the free one, your only option is Blogger, and not Wordpress. As free wordpress.com blog wouldn't allow you to install any script/plugin, and also wouldn't allow you to use their free services for such commercial purpose.
But if you choose the paid one, Wordpress Content Management System (wordpress.org) is the most useful one. There will be lots of useful plugins, and also extra tutorials out there about ways to attract more quality visitors, hence more sales.
Overall, I recommend you to use paid hosting+domain with Wordpress installed. But if you still couldn't afford it, then I guess Blogger is already a good alternative.

I will also say Blogger is the best way to go.
I have also started a blog with similar idea as you, and I use Blogger. It is very limited what is allowed on Wordpress when it comes to making money. Blogger dos not have the same restrictions.
I also think there is more inbuildt SEO value in choosing Blogger over Wordpress.
