Have you ever taken a call at 2 am? Well, it just happened to me now and I could not go back to sleep. I was asleep when my cellphone rang. Of course, I had to answer it because I have relatives from far and wide, so. The caller introduced himself as a medical student and he was doing some sort of survey, blah, blah, blah. I had to put down the phone because why would he make that survey at 2 am? When I did put the phone down, he didn't stop. He kept on calling and calling so I had to "off" the phone. Have you ever experienced anything like this? What is the best thing to do in order to stop prank calls like that? I do not want to receive any call from that loony again. Any tips?

I have had that experience once but it wasn't a survey. It was a man looking for a girlfriend and was randomly pushing numbers. There are some phones that have block functions and I do this from time to time. In that way, I couldn't get any phone calls from that person. I once accidentally blocked my uncle and he sent me an email about this. I wasn't aware and didn't get any of his calls.

My phone does not seem to have this blocking capability. Friends say to change my sim or number, but this has been my number for ages. I am using this for business and personal stuff.

Hi, I go off the grid at exactly every ten o'clock at night. All electronic devices turned off, television, radio, laptop, computer and yes phones, mobile and landlines. Like going to bed without any metal jewelries on, I also go electronic free at certain hours of the day to go undisturbed. For me, all electronic activities can wait until I wake up in the morning. That way, only natural forces can make me awake instantly ready to counter any emergencies at hand at any hour and in any situation. No prank calls, no false alarms, no groggy groping in the dark. Believe me, trusting your inner sights and instincts can be more fruitful than relying on electronic gadgets.

Hi Rog. I am now doing that because this crazy person does not seem to stop so my phone is now "off" and I will only turn it on to check on messages.

hi cutie ever since I activated the do not disturb facilty from my provider, I have more peaceful nights and even days. Actually, this has cut down about 80% of those survey or marketing calls on my phone. I am not sure if your service provider allows and provides you such a facility but you can always call up their customer care or even visit their website to confirm and if they have such a feature, why not activate it. Though it would not help you away from the pranksters, but then things would be a little more easy and conforting. This particular one doesnt seem to be a survey call from any company, to me, it seems it was just a person trying to stalk you

I think "stalk" is the term. The police cannot also track such calls and even service providers will have a hard time tracking calls like this.

I have only taken a call at 2am only if it is someone I know because then I know it is an emergency. That is the only time I answer it... If someone I know is calling at that time it has to be something important! I absolutely HATE prank calls! The earlist I have ever gotten one is 7am. And that was annoying enough... I would FLIP if someone called at 2am and they were pranking me!!

Actually you did the right thing. That was a phone bugging. Phone bugging was a common phenomenon when cell phone started coming in our country. Some teenage guys specially took prank calling or messaging as a timepast. They are of specialy slum area and illiterate. But that tendency is no more so far as it seems. Those guys seem to be tired doing so. But one thing, we must not skip answering all calls responsibly. They may be of emergency call.

He is a man and at first pretended to be a medical student doing a survey and I noticed that his questions were going to the wrong direction so I rejected the call but he is not stopping. He is really out of his mind.

I have a similar discussion a way back years ago like this. In the middle of the night while I'm already slept my phone rings and the caller is from some TV station saying blah blah blah I can't remember the details. But the disturbing calls make me sick the other day because of headache sometimes when I suddenly woke up at night I can't go back to sleep that makes ma had a head ache.

that would make me really mad and I would have told them to stop calling me and if the number showed up on my caller ID, I would make sure that I called them back and let them know I was not happy with them calling at that hour. I used to work on the midnight shift and would have people calling and trying to sell me stuff on the phone while I was trying to sleep and I only left my phone on so that I would know if my kids got sick at school. I know now that I can silence all calls by ringtone unless it is certain numbers/family members and they have specific ringtones I use on my cell phone.

A student may really need saome information for his survey as an assignment to present. But he must first send you a message atleast and find out a convenient time. Now its not difficult to find out the time in each nation. He cannot just wake you aup at odd hours. But how does he get your details or your phone number?
