Work Christmas Party

I just got an email from my job at the petstore. We are invited to a Christmas party on the 10th, they are closing our store which normally I work. I am sort of annoyed as we are missing numerous days because of Christmas, and New Years now this. They also said we have to pick names and get a $25.00 gift for whoever we pick (clearly I have that money). I emailed back asking whether we can bring a date I will invite the lady I use to work with as her sister and her and me are going to a Christmas party (and she never gets out).

Our work party is only making our party after work hours and close to work so nobody has an excuse not to go. This has gotten the entire office really down as we would prefer a day off and time to relax as we are all putting in a lot of effort into our job and deserve to be "pampered" ever so slightly.

They expect us to go as well, as we are suppose to go to work at that time. I think they want to spend the time with the entire office. I said I would go and just have fun, with a free dinner.

Oh. You got an early call. I hope all of you will enjoy your Christmas Party and I hope they'll allow dates. At work, we celebrate our Christmas Party on Christmas eve by exchanging gifts and eating something. However, we still have to work. We'll just eat during our free time. If the majority isn't doing anything, they'll start with the exchange gifts. I hope we'll have another Christmas Party this year. Things aren't good lately at work. Our boss wanted to cut down our 13th month pay.

Most want to spend Christmas eve with their families, so most companies have the parties before Christmas. I know ours are the early December, but its nice to get out and meet the other works from other offices and celebrate with those from your office.

the party sounds like fun. what i hate is when you have to buy something for someone you barely know.

I agreee, $25.00 is a lot especially this time of year, I don't have a lot of extra money, then trying to find something for someone that you may not have even met. But it's free dinner, and a fun time.

Hope you have a good party. I'm off ot hubby's evening work's do in December, we haven't been for years so thought it would be nice to show our faces. When I worked at the hospital we did sercet Santa so every memember of staff got a pressie from the christmas tree.. one year I picked my own name out, it was funny buying my own gift, but at least I got something I wanted!!LOL

A Christmas Party would surely be a good way to bond with fellow workers and also a time to relax as well. That is also common in our country to exchange gifts during the party. Kids in school are excited to be going to their Christmas Party because of the gifts that they will be receiving.

Usually its an option, I talked to the owners and they said it was fine that I didnt participate. I have bills to pay and just get by on them, although a gift exchange would be nice, I simple cant afford it.

I think Christmas parties, if there is one at a place, should be held after worktime... not instead! (and then people working properly and honestly are going to earn less because of this... gah...) It's crazy. Also, I don't know about your country and wages exactly, but $25 gifts for random people... it just seems too much... $10-15 would be more reasonable, I'm pretty sure that money would have a better place.

How odd that they would close the store. Are they planning on having it in the store itself?

I wonder how many $25 gift cards will be handed out that night?

Most likely a lot, or a lot of chocolate. I am not participating, neither are a few others in the office as we simple cant afford it. Our manager, keeps bugging us but I told her unless she is paying for my bills, for the cost of this gift which I cant afford anyways.

No, it's being held at a restuarent in a completely different town. They are paying for dinner, and everything. But we buy a $25.00 minimum gift.

I asked the manager, and she said no we didnt have to participate if we didnt want too. I explained that I dont have any money, I took two animals to the vets and then all my bills on top of that I only have $100.00 for two weeks and I know I need gas which is $50.00 there. Plus, I owe my Dad $85.00 for my car now as well for my brakes.

That's cool their having a party, not many companys celebrate holidays and it's nice when you can have a day to just relax, eat food and have good conversation and not worry about your job for a day. We our not having a party at my job however the week before Christmas each day we our all bringing in something and having a day with snacking and eating out, one day will each pitch in 5 bucks to order a pizza, one day someone will bring in donuts the other person cider things like that. It works out better than just having a party for 1 day. It's nice when your work lets you celebrate holidays and don't have to worry about too much stress during that time.

The party sounds like a lot of fun, and I'm certain that you will be able to find a nice gift to take with you. I would suggest taking a look at Etsy for a unique gift in that price range.

We pick it the day of the party I believe, and then buy it afterwards. But I don't know anyone that works there. I simple know 2 of the 20 employees, and I certainly hope I dont get the owner or manager.

Dear Ricki, I am sorry the store is closing. Have a wonderful time at the party. How thoughtful of you to invite your former co worker to go with you. I am sure she will appreciate it.

It is actually normal for our company to have a Christmas break and party too...what excites me is this year's grand prize for our raffle draws....I just hope that I can win this time...

Well during the Holidays there are a lot of places out there that choose to close and so people usually are not getting paid. Even when it comes to time for parties they will do this for sure. Personally though $25 seems a little high, but should be worth it if people just remember to be nice.

I talked to my manager and a bunch of us rbought it up. We simple can't afford $25.00 I know I cant. I am still catching up from taking Patches & Max to the vets, plus all my bills ontop of that. So a bunch of us opted not to do the gift exchange, and we are missing a bunch of days in December so I will be short on that as well, as all the doctors appointment missing work.

$25 for a gift just for a co worker for some christmas party seems like quite a bit to me. I have a hard time picking out gifts for people I'm always afraid they wont like what I get them. That stinks that due to this party you have to work less hours which means less money for the holidays.

I thought the samething as well, I explained to the manager I simple cant afford it. I had to bring two animals to the vet, plus all my bills I simple dont have the money. So a few of us are in the same boat, so we got to opt out of the gift exchange but we are going for dinner.
