In 2007 when I was 16 yrs old i got into a major car accident. I was with my best friend, her sister, and her grandma. We were on our way back to her house when a drunk driver side swiped our car. I was sitting behind the driver in the backseat when the window shattered in my face. My friend, her sister, and I all climbed out of the car. At the time i knew i was spitting out blood out of my mouth. A first responder that was off duty pulled up behind us gave me his shirt and told me to hold it on my face. At this point i knew that i was badly hurt because the first responder told me to sit down and not to move. He was afraid i was going to pass out from all the blood loss. By the time the ambulance got there and the fire fighters got there i had already lost so much blood. They all rushed over to me put me on a stretcher and rushed me to the hospital. Once i got there i had so many doctors and nurses rushing around me. My mom came in the room i was in and almost fell on the floor from all the blood. I had no left side of my face or forehead. My plastic surgeon put over 500 stitches in my face that night. I was bedridden for 2 1/2 months. Since that day i have had over 16 surgeries removing glass from my face that was in so far that was pushing its way out of my face. Finally a month ago i got cleared from having anymore surgeries.
Please let this be a lesson to everyone. I was lucky and so was the rest of the people in the car with me that night. Some people aren't so lucky. People die everyday from drinking and driving. Please nobody Drink and Drive. I know I never will.

I'm glad you survived this ordeal, along with the rest who were with you! What a terrible experience, and all those surgeries to boot. Yes, it is most foolish to drink and drive. Life is too short as it is and how does a person feel if they have killed or handicapped someone because they have driven under the influence. If someone wants to party by having some drinks they should do so at home, sleep over, of have a designated driver. I'm usually a designated driver as I can have a perfectly good time visiting with friends without drinking.

this is a good story to share and learn.other people just dont care until they got the experience themselves.please let us all learn from other persons experiences and do not take any more risk on drinking and driving, accident happens all the time any where and every where,if we are not that lucky we are going to lose the only one life we have.

I`m so sorry this happened to you and I`m thankful that you told your story. Many times we don`t grap the full meaning of what can happen unless there`s a real story, not just numbers and stadistics. In my country there`s a new law that will not allow to drive and drink at all. Before that, there was a limit, but it seems that the law proved too soft on the people who drank too much. So now it is that you either drink or drive. As it should be.

Hi.
I am sorry about this thing that happened to you. I hope more will able to read this as this will be enough to learn our lesson. In our country, there are police officers who are constantly checking the drivers on the road because as much as possible we would not want to have any accident. But there are times that people are just hardheaded and would not follow the rules.
Thank you for sharing this story.
