Snake in the Lake

When I was a boy we had a pond in our village. Not a big pond, in fact just the right size for small boys in need of a summer paddle. However, a huge snake was reputed to live in the pond. He would eat small fish, ducklings and green frogs. My sister would always wear her rubber boots when paddling bust I would stand there bare legged half wishing and half dreading the brush of the snake as it bore down on my wiggly tootsies. But in the end it was my sister that had the run in with the serpent. Her boots were green with froggy eyes painted on them and they proved irresistible to snakey. She survived the attack but there was a lot of screeching and wailing! In fact I think that the snake was not wild at all but was given a swim by some nasty villager who, liked to spoil things for others. There are people like that apparently in almost every environment. Maybe even here!

Hi p1kef1sh, that is scary. Being able to be bare legged though knowing there is a huge snake reputed to live in the pond. *salute* I would have scared to stiff and not being there if i know there's a snake swarming around. @.@ However, your sister's rubber boots really made me laugh. One the one hand it was funny to notice the boot was green with froggy eyes which becomes irresistible to the snake. But on the other hand, it is really dangerous. Good thing she survived from the attack. I suppose the snake was not really hungry yet. Hopefully your sister does not have any phobia from her young time experience.

I'm glad your sister was not hurt! Do the two of you laugh about it now?
When I was young we used to fish and swim in Grandpa's pond and there was supposed to be a huge bass in there. We were told it even had teeth and did our best to catch it but of course we never did! At our other Grandpa's house he had a creek running through the pasture that we liked to swim in but he always told us to be careful of water moccasins, or as he called them, cottonmouths. I actually saw one once but luckily my brother and I had just gotten out of the water. No telling how long we shared that lovely pool with a deadly serpent!

I just recently had an adventure with the snake and I jst remembered I have not concluded the story yet.
When I was a kid I accidentally touched a snake without knowing it. I developed a phobia when I found outit was a snake. I'm on a questo to conquer that phobia.

wow the snake in the lake would really appeal to little kids
and of course the kids all had stories to tell about how they
had encounters with the huge snake in the lake.Of course your
sister had to have her story too how it ate her boots and
with much screaming too. probably w s a tame snake some one
dumped in the ake.

In Singapore the Boss took to wearing a python round her neck occasionally. But we left it there when we came home. I am not a snake lover and would have to dissuade your snake from its tank if I was to sleep at night! I presume that your snake is not poisonous?

It's actually an irrigation tank Riyauro that the snake lives in. The water tank is similar, but closed off to prevent anything getting into it. Our irrigation tank looks like a swimming pool too, but unfortunately you raise a load of silt if you disturb it so it's not so good.
I've no idea of our snake is poisonous or not actually. As far as I know there aren't many poisonous ones, and those that are aren't venomous enough to kill a healthy adult so I don't really worry about it. At the end of the day, it is far more scared of me than the reverse and we respect each other's space.
I love snakes. Their skin feels fabulous. Much better where it is than on a handbag.

I just hate snakes. LOL. Were you not aware that there was a snake in the pond?
That's a bit scary, missing ducks could be a sign that there is something wrong with the lake or pond. Like the presence of a crocodile. I never thought that a snake can live in the lake? Isn't it too deep for it? Do they have ways on how they will breathe. Glad that your sister survived the attack. But is she okay? You know it's traumatic for her.

Well thats normal for snakes to eat those things hopefully he ate mice to they can be a real pest. That is so funny though what happened to your sister. She probably didnt think anything of the frog boots attracting snakes until it happened. I would have screamed to haha.

You are not suggeting that there are snakes in the myLot lake now are you? I can't imagine that they would be here!
Great story though. I always thought that the green boots with froggy eyes were dangerous, I will have to get rid of mine now and get some plain black ones.

That was indeed daring I must say, knowing that there was a snake in there!
We were on holiday and were in an open boat cruising in a river. The tour guide accompanied us and while we were in the middle of the river the guide announces that the river is infested with crocodiles. You can imagine how the ride was until we were back on the shore.

oh my I get scared of snakes and I can't imagine you going to the pond when you know there is a snake. I am glad nothing happened to your sister. That would have been the scariest moment of her life. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

I can't stand snakes. You wouldn't catch me anywhere near that pond lol. So you think it was someones pet that was released into this lake? I've heard a lot of stories about people doing that and it damaging the environment. Normally when their pet snake gets too big for them to handle.

My house was always with animals around. We lived on a hill on the island mountain. We had a bad experience where the snake was thought to be a belt. Someone picked it up and screamed. The community got together to hunt it and trap it. It was too close for comfort that one!
