What is everyone else getting their parents? My dad seems to have everything already, the house is coming down with DVDs and books, what do you get the man who has everything? I was maybe thinking vouchers for a really nice local restaurant or maybe vouchers towards a professional photographer so that we could get a really nice family portrait done?
What does everyone else think? Or what is everyone else doing? Any inspiration come to you yet?

I think both are nice ideas, if you are comfortable with vouchers. I personally love gift cards and vouchers if someone knows the places I would love to go, but some people feel uneasy about them, as they are "just a piece of paper".
Other good ideas:
-accessories: bag, wallet, scarf, watch
-clothes, ties
-keychain
-more elegant pen in a nice box
-tickets to the theatre, cinema, museum... even skydiving or racecar driving, if he's of an adventurous kind
-3D puzzle or a ship/boat/plane/train/whatever model

Thanks he is not an accessories person he would call them either a man bag and never use it, maybe some new hand luggage would be good as he does a lot of traveling but it may be a bit impersonal.
He is very picky about what he wears so wouldn't want to spend a fortune on something designerish when he is just going to use it to paint the ceiling in.
He doesn't like key chains because he keeps everything in his pockets and that would be too heavy and bulky. He wouldn't really appreciate a pen as I have tried that before they just get lost or broken in his travels.
Since my parents live in a different country to me and I am unsure when my dad is away on travel through work I wouldn't want to get him something that would be for a specific day in case he cant go and I cant get a refund.
He has never been a model person unfortunately that is more my thing.
I think if it was a restaurant he really likes though he may enjoy it and with a a family portrait it would be an excuse for us all come together in one place which only happens at Christmas my brother doesn't even live in the same country as me anymore, we all parted ways for education and employment.

I suggest you give him a video of your family time together if you want him to get emotional. I also suggest a nice watch if you have an extra budget. You can also try to make a scrapbook of his memorabilias. In order to touch him more, I suggest you to sing to him with any musical instrument you know.

We don't have any videos of our time together and even if we did he would be the only one who knows where they are unfortunately and I gave him a really nice photograph book of our graduation foreign holidays and birthdays last year, we aren't really a singing family not even in church and we don't play musical instruments for us that would just be cringingly awkward as we aren't musically talented.
If I got him a watch it would just end up with the pile of DVDs and books unfortunately, if he saw one he liked he would just buy one himself and he isn't into designer brands.
Though being able to get him something that would give us an excuse to meet up for more than 3 weeks a year would be nice and being able to create a new memory together I would really like we all live in different countries in the UK you see. I don't see them very much.
