For 3 years, I've been feeling unexplainable pain in my middle finger. At first, I thought it was just nerve dislocated or maybe due to over typing. But I noticed even a slight bump of my finger to something or a slight touch give excruciating pain. Worst, it gives a tingling pain during cold season.
I noticed each year the pain grows. I tried to research but could not find any kind of disease that could give me idea what is happening to my finger. I don't want to go to doctor because every time I visit one, it always ended up with a news that I have health problem. This year I really can't take it anymore so I decided to visit a doctor. Good thing I have a health card provided by my company so I don't have to pay cash for check up and laboratories. I was advised to visit Ortho but the Ortho referred me to a hand specialist. The diagnosis was a bit shocking. Of course I knew it that it's a news about a new health problem again. The doctor told me that the case of my finger is a rare one which is called GLOMUS TUMOR. I researched about it and the symptoms are all similar to what I experience such as:
1. Pain in the finger which is usually at the tip. It could also be in arms, ankle, ears and even in stomach.
2. More pain during cold season or if you are in cold areas. Sometimes if too much heat. In short very sensitive to temperature.
3. Slight bump or touch could cause too much pain too
The solution was to remove the tumor which looks like a tiny white soft ball. Sometimes it is too small like a tip of pencil so the doctor requires MRI or ultrasound instead of Xray to see where the tumor is located. Mine is via Xray though we can't see it but the doctor is positive where it is since the pain is concentrated near my nail.
Excision is the solution for this. S0 last Oct 29, I went for operation. They removed my nail. slice the top part of my finger then removed the glomus tumor. Now I'm still recovering. I can still feel the pain but this time it's due to the wound and of course they removed my nail so what do you expect. Hehehe. It is really painful until fully healed. My finger looks like Frankenstein at this moment since they put the old nail and sew it for the mean time and also for protection of the wound.
I didn't leave for work for long time. I just try not to use my left hand for typing but I can't help it specially with my work. heheh..
If you ask what is the cause of this. I honestly don't know the exact cause and the doctor can't give the exact cause. The best explanation I got online is due to abnormal growth of glomus cell. Glomus cell is responsible for our temperature sensitivity. If we touch cold, we know it is cold. That is how I understand it.
Well if you experience those things above, better check with your doctor.
By the way, it is benign. So I have nothing to worry. :)

I initially thought that it was arthritis or rheumatism. It has the same symptoms that you just said and it's specially problematic during the cold seasons! But since the doctor did say that you have that tumor, then it's good that at least you know what it is.
Any idea how those things come or the causes of those tumors?
Have a great mylot experience ahead!

Just got back here. They can't explain the cause of this. But looks like the "thing" came back.
