That was a message in a motivational video I saw on a website of a business I am working with. Well - guess who was fired from a newspaper because he lacked original ideas and imagination? Walt Disney!! Who was told at school that he was too stupid to learn anything?? It was Thomas Edison!! What music group was turned douwn by a recording company with the words "I don't like your sound!"..?? The Beatles!! Have you ever thought that you are good for nothing and a complete failure? Think again! If we have failed in business or relationships or any other field, we just have to keep learning. Learning from our mistakes! Have you any experience of failing and losing self confidence? I think we all have. It hurts a lot, but if we don't give up, we will find a way to recover. Your thoughts?

The beauty of the life is that we never give up if we know we are doing something good. We will be rewarded in the end!

Yeppers and along with that goes "If you haven't annoyed anybody, you haven't done anything." Most of the very successful people have failed many times, I think, which is why they "don't put all their eggs in one basket."

Yeah, it is impossible to please everyone - if we try our best, that should be OK - even if someone gets annoyed. And every mistake makes a contribution to our life education..

Very interesting discussion! I can see how being told such things could discourage a person and keep them from reaching their potential. Actually most things are simply a matter of personal opinion. I work as a cashier. I'll admit it...I'm ditzy and my fingers are clumsy on the register. I make mistakes...fix most of them and sometimes...I have no clue to what I've screwed up. My former boss was hyper critical. I would have quit so many time but I needed the job...had kids to raise. Got a new boss that tells me that I'm his best cashier because I know how to treat customers and I'm honest and we all make mistakes. He says my former boss destroyed me. If my drawer is over or under, I get so so upset. He has checked the register tape and videos enough to know that when it happens it is not because I'm taking the money wrong but typing in something wrong or more often than not...just tired at the end of the night and adding things wrong and not off at all.

Well, we can choose to not climb any career ladder but the talent you have is useful for all contacts - it will make you and others happy. If we are willing, our Creator may give us amazing things to do..

Thanks for your experience! Sometimes we meet people who can see something good in us that we have never thought about. And we can keep looking for good qualities in others that they have never thought of that they had - and we get happy from giving them encouragement! Your talent in dealing with people may lead to something really great

I don't think it is going to lead me into anything much. My ex used to push me to get into being a councellor or something but honestly, I never felt like I wanted to do something like that for a living. I did use to have a job adjusting auto insurance claims and I got the job because of how I was with the people who were understandably upset having been in an accident. I gave it up when I had my girls because the hours were many and took away too much of my time with them. At my age now...I don't see me climbing up the ladder.

Nice information there! We all know that failure is a stepping stone to success. My middle name is 'tenacity'. I never give up anything easily. I take it as a challenge and I love challenges. Failures contribute to such challenges. I have no formal education in computers I just had only a couple of sessions with a friend of mine and then on I tried to understand computers by going through the good old 'windows for dummies'. I lost a hard disk in the bargain but today I am computer savvy - may be smarter than the youngsters I might come across here!

I agree with you. At times we definitely need to remind ourselves of this. Thanks for the encouragement. We have to keep trying and reaching for our goals and things we want to accomplish. If we don't try we will never know or have the opportunity to become what we want.

Yup, you are right, if we give up, we will never know how far we can get and what we can accomplish! We just have to keep reminding ourselves about it..

Yes it is important that we remind ourselves of that. That way we are continually motivated to reach our goals and get what we want. I'm hoping that I will be able to reach my personal goals if I keep the right attitude and mind set.

Yeah... I've failed really hard a couple of times and it crushed me, but I'm an eternal optimist. I always think I will do better next time. So far, so good. "It takes the wind out of your sails when you fail, but the wind comes back if you're facing the right direction."

That's right, many times we need to try a new direction. And we can always change the direction many times until we find the right one.. Quitters never win and winners never quit..

i had a teacher who told me once when i had made a mistake she stated that is why we have erasers.... i really hate to make mistakes but then i realize it is a learning experience. it just wasn't suppose to be in alot of situations. this is a part of life. when we fail, we grow. we are able to do what is right and have learned in the process.

Galatians 6:9 (NLT) 9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. When I get discouraged or fail at something or someone tries to crush my spirit, I always think of this verse. I think it was Edison that when he tried something many times and was told that his project was a failure, replied that he wasn't giving up as he just learned many ways that were incorrect and he continued and he succeeded. As you stated, failure is part of learning how to succeed. We learn what is wrong and keep going till we get it right. We are only a failure when we give up. God tells us not to give up and we will succeed! If God says we can, why should we allow anyone else tell us we can't. Who has always told us the truth?

Thank you for reminding of this scripture. The Bible has great advice for everything in our life. Yes, we can keep learning as long as we live. And we know the blessings are waiting for us if we don't give up!!

I think these things are the things that make us stronger if we rise above them. It is hard when someone makes you feel less or bad but we are all worth more than people makes us feel sometimes. Great discussion!

Yes, we have to love ourselves or we will not be able to love others. Jesus reminded us: "‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself’" Matthew 22:39 (J.B. Phillips New Testament) Let us never give up doing what is good for us and everyone else!

I really don't know that it is fair to say that you have never lived if you've never failed. However, I do think that it is fair to say that in order to become a great success in your life, there have to be endeavors that you have in your life that you have failed in. I think that the best ideas that people ever have in their lives come after they've faced the greatest failures in their lives.

Failure motivates us to become stronger. The quote on your discussion title would really go well with "Whatever doesn't kill you will make you stronger." Maybe Walt Disney used that failure to fuel his motivation that's why he's very successful today. His company is earning billions now and I bet that well-earned money came from a lot of failures learned effectively.

Yeah, you may be right, or someone may have encouraged him if they saw how talented he was..?? People who have a special talent are often misunderstood and considered untalented.. I'm happy Walt Disney started with Donald Duck and Co.. I used this magazine to learn a new language when I was a kid and had moved to Sweden with my parents.. I just loved to read it..

Failures if accepted as challenges are only stepping stones for success. It is only those who quits and surrenders to the challenges of failures that will never see the light at the end of the tunnel. All the best mangtony.
