Do you get awkward when a stranger walks in the elevator?

I never get awkward when I stranger walks in the elevator. If everyone would just be themselves, there wouldn't be any awkwardness. People morph into their best personality when this happens. That's why people get polite, stiff, and quiet. It's so funny to experience this on a daily basis.

The main reason this could be awkward is the fact that you don't know where to look. You don't want to stare or to fix just a single point or to walk with the eyes all over. Every option is a bad one because the space being so small whatever you do can be related with the other person there.
I think that's the reason why some prefer to small talk, to move the attention from the "not knowing what to do" to something else.
Anyway, it's not something that bothers me so much to better take the stairs. :)
