These ants are freaking me out. Today, I killed about 50 of them. They're going in and out of my laptop one by one, cramming to go somewhere, everywhere, keyboard, screen and under. I wonder if how much wire they ate inside. Or am I counting days before my laptop deteriorates because of these ants? What should I do with them? Or with my laptop? Have you experienced this kind of thing to your computer too?

I'm fortunate not to have experienced this. But I've heard that this has happened to some friends of mine. I'm not sure though what happened to their laptops. That's why I make sure I don't place my laptop anywhere near food or drinks. And I never eat while I'm using my laptop. Even a small bit of crumb can attract ants. Bring your laptop to a service center and have it checked. I think it needs to be opened up. There's a chance that the ants had made the inside of your laptop their home.

There's no food here on my table but they really like it here. This happened before but only few ants were roaming. This time, they were unbelievable.

Sometimes ants look for warm, dry places. That's also another possibility.

I have the same experience but not with my laptop but with hubby motorbike seat and my baby's shoes. I'm don't minds ants at all before, but after we move to this recent house we're staying I think I don't like them at all. This is seems infested with ants, wherever you go there's loads of them. I think in my one year of stay in this house I have killed hundred thousands of them. They're on our bed sometimes, in the kitchen, or in the cabinets (both clothes drawer and canned goods drawer). I hope they don't eat the wiring's of your laptop. Happy mylotting!

That’s too much! Don’t you think they are the ones who own the house and not you? That’s dangerous for your baby. They might bite anywhere, be careful. I do hope they don’t eat my laptop wires. Or else, I cannot mylot for a long time.

I think you should put some insecticide on their main house. Maybe it's underneath your house.

Actually that's what's my in laws were telling us, that many we should give our rent to them not with our landlady. You maybe right, they own this house and the person owner just claims it hers. hahahaha. Honestly , there's loads of ants even now in our kitchen, I really have no idea where they from. Ah... many times it had bitten me, hubby and my baby. I hope too that they don't damage your laptop or else I'll be missing you loads here. :)

Have you been snacking while at the computer? A tiny drop of food would invite a colony of ants. Ants are not interested in the computer unless you invited them to feast with you on your snacks.

the ants must have found their new comfort zone in your computer. Get that bugs out before they create a nuisance to the internal wires.I know its not easy to lure them out but you can spray inseecticide onto a piece of cloth and place it under the laptop. That could expedite their exit.

There's not even a drop of smallest food here. The ants are all inside, maybe they have brought the foods from the outside to my laptop.

Oh, that’s a good idea. A cloth with insecticide then will be put underneath. But I was thinking what if most of them are still inside and since they cannot go out because of the insecticide, they would rather stay inside my laptop. Okay, that’s the worst thing I could think of. But I will check on them and if it feels like they’re all gone, I will try doing your advice.

hi adnileb Ants have been the only ones who have been so caring for me... they realized that I had health issues and should be on a medically prescribed diet... but I kept asking for Chocos, Chowmein and coffee from different friends here on MyLot... and they ate up the "C" key on my keyboard. This was some months earlier and I had even two discussions on this. Then recently they felt that I am all alone here and hence may be in need of some company... so they have occupied areas on my bed, on my computer table, in the water filter (I always find a whole lot of them swimming even now when winters are at the door).... and they have no mercy whatsoever... maybe they are being over friendly with me but I am upset with almost all my privacy being lost to them Anyways, for the laptops, these are really dangerous things and yoiu must take proper care so that they fear even going near to the Lappy... Many suggested chemical weapons and I did drop a few on them, but that hasnt helped me much. I am still uncomfortable....

if that chalk is available at your place... then use it to draw lines all around the bed, the table on which the lappy stays and also ensure that no cables on this desk get to touch the floor or the walls. And it would also be a good move to take the lappy to the engineers so that they can open it up and blow the ants out using blowers. (that is just to ensure that these dont stay inside you lappy).

hi sid.. Oh my, what are these creatures? Invaders and really have no mercy. But do you love it when some ants are with you during those lonely times? It's not being over friendly anymore that even my skin, they want to eat. While getting rid of them, one of them bit me. They're too much. I wonder what to do with these little crawling ants. (ooops, another one crawling on the screen)

We have here that kind of chalk you're talking about. I use it as a defense against ants eating our foods. I draw a line on the side of the big container. And poof! No ants at all. But I can't use that for my lappy, my table is near my bed and the chalk might be poisonous so the dust particles would be dangerous. You should be careful when the chalk gets erased. The ants visit the storage box on a daily basis so they know when they could get there. It happened once, they attacked! Been doing that water thingy too with our rice container. Can't imagine it doing to my lappy. But there's one suggestion like that, on the link from comment box #8. The second link to be exact. Kinda okay but it seems weird to me though.

And some technician says, they stay in our units on rainy/cool season thinking they can shelter in it.. Since it's warm inside when your unit is turned on!:) Try to have it cleaned up! Maybe technicians can do something about it :/

Did the technician say they’re going to eat the wirings? Or not? I hope not. But they leave my laptop when it’s turned on. Maybe it’s too hot for them to handle. I do hope tonight, they’re not there again. I want to unscrew the cover. Do you think it’s okay?

Belinda, hope by now your problem had been solved. Always try to checkout as why those ants seems more attracted to your computer. Try to arrange and put your computer at other places of your room. Sometimes, it is due to the place that attracted them, so they build their nest. Ants like places that are warm and humid. Try to wipe clean your that area and spray some anti-ant spray. Before i ever bought an anti-ant powder case, which i put to areas which is ant prone. You won't seen any ant after a few days. I am not sure whether your area got sell this anti-ant product.

hi adnileb, you must have kept lots of sweet lovely photos, sweet loving messages, sweet love letters, sweet love songs, and all your sweet memories in your laptop! as we all know, ants like sweet things very much. i think they are invading into your hard disk for all the sweet things you kept in there! suggestions: 1) what should you do with the ants? - do nothing harmful to them. 2) what should you do with your laptop? - format it. 3) have you experienced this kind of thing to your computer? - yes, i formatted it and all the ants left by themselves. conclusion: we must always find the root cause and take action from there. otherwise you will end up doing unnecessary things or killing innocent ants. p/s: i know i would have helped you a lot after this... but you don't have to thank me for solving the ants problem... and for cleaning all your data in your laptop!

Ants can be a real nuisance. But so are other bugs. This year, mostly due to the climate, my garden is thriving. But so are snails and roaches. And unfortunatly, roaches will get into the house and snails will feast on my veggies. I have bought some Raid spray, but I don`t trust that they will keep them away. Did you try to check where the ants came from? I try to go to their homes to kill them.

I just took all my plants in containers away from the door and put some pesticide there. But I cannot put pesticides in veggies. So I have to be crafty and learn mechanical ways of killing snails.

Yes, pesticides are dangerous for the veggies. Maybe put some diversion so that the snails would the other plants and not those veggies of yours. Try planting other plants, or grass maybe on the side so they will just stay there.

That’s so annoying. You wanted to eat fresh veggies but the snails already ate them for you. I hate roaches too especially at night, sometimes they crawl and fly and it freaks me out. Last night, I saw one crawling on top, then another one, and another one. I flipped my laptop and LOTS of them are underneath crawling out. They gave me goosebumps.

i have had the same problems before in my laptop. and i think i will be having the same problem in desktop. apparently, ants love the electronic circuit board. well, i'm not sure. but i have seen boards that has white foamy spots in it and i assumed this is where the ants go - or live. as what the earlier comments mentioned, ants maybe attracted to the heat. i an't think of any solution to this one except to just keep checking the unit everytime and remove those ants one by one. water and computers don't go together. so leaving a pool of liquid around your laptop is not a good idea.

the possibility that i'm thinking is the dirty workplace first is you need to clean your place before you deal with the ants on your laptop. try to spray clearcoat to make the key prints last longer plus the chemical compounds of the clearcoat might drive them away

LOL, Dirty workspace is also possible, second, don't eat while you are sitting in your computer... treats most especially sweets can attract ants so, cookies and the alike are not advisable when you are sitting in your computer. Also, cleaning your workplace in a regular basis treating some insecticide or so, can help you eliminate such bugs/insects.

Just now i have replied to a similar discussion, my grand sons poured sweetened milk over the key board of lap top, and closed it, the milk entered in side, i saw after 3 days, cleaned it, tons of ants were there, now i have put a transparent cover over the key board and the screen.

Aw, that's so sweet of your grand sons. So, is the laptop working fine? Good thing the milk and ants didn't ruin some chips or wires inside. Ants do visit my laptop every now and then and their visit is a surprise, really unpredictable. And since I can only use the computer at night, and the light is not that bright, I'm startled by them crawling in my fingers.

I don't know if you have been eating while using laptop. What I have learned, ants try to find food or something sweet to have. It is possible that your laptop has some residue of crumbs that attract them. I am not an expert, but I could offer you few ideas: - Use a blower to suck possible residue away from your laptop. You need to turn off your laptop completely including unplugging the power source. - Wipe your laptop with a disinfectant. Like the above, turn off the laptop completely including power source. - Wipe and clean the area where you place your laptop most of the time. You might also need to do routine chore.

I experienced this at one time, and it was the most frustrating ever. I killed hundred of them every day. They are small red ants that bite and sting. At the end I just sprayed them with talc, especially in places where they came out. Though at the time I was worried the talc would do more damage than the ants. Well, it worked after sometime and I didn't have that problem anymore.

You just need to bring it to a computer technician so that he could open it up and get rid of all the ants. Ants could have laid their eggs by this time. So it is really a must to get rid of it completely before it ruins your laptop.

Hi, Ants and any bugs in a laptop, PC or printer spells the doom of that equipment. I am always on the lookout for such critters around my systems. You should bring your laptop to the nearest technician to have it dismantled and cleaned from the inside. It is always a threat to me once but ever since I spread axle grease on the legs and back of my PC table, they seem to take a hint and didn't bother me anymore.
