I have to stay in a motel soon until I find an apartment. I'm on the housing voucher program. I'm beginning to get very worried.

ou should be able to obtain a motel voucher from the same organization or Service that is providing your housing voucher. You must make your case worker aware that you will be without a home until you find the more semi-permanent lodging. If you are not going throuh the Department of Public Social Services or whatever it is called in your state, then you can seek General Relief and emergency housing assistance through your local welfare department. If neither of those sources is forthcoming, if you have a Catholic Charities, goodwill, or YMCA in your area, you can often obtain such temporary lodgings or lodging vouchers by appealing to them or the Charitable arm of the Prespeterian or Baptist Church administration or some arm therein. If all else fails, find an apartment quick, fast, and in a hurry, make it your priority. If there is some waiting period involved until you receive your apartment housing voucher there is still absolutely no need for you to be sitting on your hands during this time. Look for an apartment and be completely set up and ready to go the day that your voucher is to be cut.
Being between homes is a rough gig, and it is a time period when you are most easily divested of your belongings. All those thngs that are near and dear to you or which have a monetary value I suggest you store someplace secure other than your vouchered motel until you are moved into your new apartment. put it in a 5 x5 foot storage unit under lock and key or if small enough and neccessity dictates, lock your valuables in a bus station locker. Make sure it is in view of the terminal operators station and take a moment or two to speak with the manager or attendant and explain your situation to them. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TELL THEM EXACTLY WHAT IS IN THE LOCKER OR THE MONETARY VALUE. Tell them that your valuables that you wish to keep under lock and key are of more sentimental and memorial value than monetary value, tell them your uncle or brother's urn is in there along with family photos and keepsakes, things you would hate to lose and which are really of little value to anyone other than yourself. Most people will be sympathetic and will at least keep a weather eye on it for you when they are there.
Good luck and God be with you.
