My very first plane ride

Philippines

The other night I was wondering why I waited so long to travel to places that can be reached by plane. My friend has been able to travel all around Asia and our country by taking advantage of the seat sales our local airlines holds every month or so. Maybe it's because I was taking care of my sick mother. Or I thought, together with most people, that traveling on an airplane is expensive and I cannot afford it. So a few weeks ago, I decided to go to Coron, Palawan. You can use the ferry to get there, which is a day's travel. Or you can go by plane. I decided to go by plane. At the airport, I couldn't hide my excitement since it would be my very first plane ride. My friends would be taking another flight with another airline, so I was alone on my first trip. But I thought it was better that way. At least they won't be able to make fun of me. I literally had to cotrol myself from shouting "wheeeeeee!" when the plane took off hahahaha. Do you remember your first plane ride? Do you recall how much fun it was?

you know what, mine were so far apart they always felt like the first time! what i've always fantasized about is riding a ship. see, my parents hometown is 14 hours by bus (to be fair, there are 2 stopovers so you can eat and pee, hahaha!) then people i've worked with whose provinces are in visayas and mindanao tell me how you can roam around the ship, chat with people, and see all kinds of fish in the water. it sounds like a fun yet relaxing way to travel. but since i can't swim, i'd probably wear a life-jacket the moment i get onboard (even if i have to buy myself one!) hahaha!

I have gone on a ship quite a couple of times already. This is one of the reasons why I have sea legs already. I also don't know how to swim and that thought was running through my head when the stewardess was demonstrating how to use the life vests. Thanks for your response!

I used to live in the Visayas when I was a child and my mom also has the travel bug with her that some weekends we would ferry hop from Bacolod to Iloilo, Dumaguete and other neighboring provinces that are just an hour or two by boat. Cebu was the only province we weren't able to go to because it is quite far (and expensive even at that time) by boat.

My very first ride on plane was my unforgettable one! It was a trip to Davao for my first inventory to one of my company's branch. No body informed me that the time on my ticket was supposed to be a one and half advance before departure so when I got to present my ticket at the teller in the airport I was 30mins late! Meaning I wasn't able to make it on the said time of my departure!! I was so very scared at that time because that was a company's paid trip and it was my first time. So, to make it short I was brought to the supervisor for me able to explain why I can't make it to my flight. I was just too lucky because their were passengers that cancelled their trip to Davao that make their spot available for any passenger but the place was in a business class it was so lucky that the supervisor that time was so kind and he gave me the spot even if in my ticket I was be sitting in a more comfortable and cozy chair and more delicious food. Business class was far more different in an economy class because it has more bigger chair with tv and headphones and the food was like in a expensive restaurant. But after that incident I promise to myself that I will never be late on all my flights because it is not everyday that there are people that are kind and can understand the situation ^_^ It just turn out to be a good karma with a lesson ^_^

Well, I on the other hand was way too early for my flight. I am so used to my brothers' leaving for international destinations that I didn't know that you just need to be at the airport at least 45mins before your flight. I was at the airport three hours before my flight. Talk about being excited . Thanks for your response!

Thank God for free WIFI at the airport. And there are a lot of restaurants there, so I didn't go hungry. But now that I know that I have to be at the airport just an hour before my flight, I'll do that next time I fly.

Wow you are too early anne! where do you spend your time in the airport? what makes you busy while waiting for your flight? maybe the airport was too big for you to have a stroll on it right? Anyways it is better to be "too early" than to be late lol^_^

I actually haven't taken a trip by plane or by a ferry yet. I only travel to the towns near my hometown. LOL. I can't afford to have travels yet. I hope someday, I can also visit famous tourist spots in our country and other countries as well. Wow, riding a plane must be an awesome experience! I'm glad you were able to ride a plane already. I hope you'll have more travels alone or with your friends. Enjoy life by traveling. Goodluck and happy mylotting.

@LetranKnight I've only ridden some rented rowboats. We went boating in a man-made lake. I was scared. The rowboats weren't stable. Every movement we made, it was like we're falling. LOL. It was fun. @anne25penn You're welcome.

Hello there, I haven't even on the so-called ferry yet the only close to me riding was a small boat ride.there's always a huge risk of riding an Airplane, some people even have phobia on it too. I hope something i can ride on the airplane, it's just so hard to believe that i haven't taken an Airplane ride

Well, try to go to any of our tourist spots here in country first. It's no longer as expensive as it was a few years ago. My plane ticket is actually cheaper than my bus fare to Baguio. Thanks for your response!

Yes, I remember my first plane ride and I was with my Mom. We traveled on three countries, it was a 5-day tour (Manila-Macau-Hong Kong-Shenzhen-Macau-Manila). I wasn't that excited because I am more nervous. I had a problem with my ears when the plane went to its very top and I thought my ears are going to burst. So, it wasn't that good for my first time. I also experienced travelling to Laoag, Ilocos Norte via plane. I just took a nap and we're there. How long did it take you to be there in Coron?

The trip to Coron was only 45mins. But my return flight was like an hour. One of the reasons being is that NAIA is such a busy airport, while Coron, well..It's a small town, with a small airport where a plane lands every hour or sometimes every three hours and only during the daytime. Thanks for your response!

Come to think of it I really can't remember when my first plane ride was. Maybe I was very young then. I'm just sure I did not shout like you did :) Never been to a lot of far places however, just Manila. I wish I could go to Palawan, Boracay, Bohol (been there but did not actually travel at beautiful spots) and South Korea :)

I don't remember my first plane ride because I was only two years old. But I remember subsequent plane rides. I was never afraid and really thought it was cool. However, I have not been in a plane since September 11, 2001. Now I know I'd have to wait in a huge line and get frisked and all that. So I'm in no rush.

My first plane ride was also very exciting. I was wondering how it would feel to be up in the air. It was long time ago when I was still studying in college when my Godfather brought me in one of his business trip. Well, I really was proud since at the time there was not sales and traveling by plane at that time was really expensive. Now that I am working, I average around 10-12 flights in a month. But it is no longer that expensive most especially if I can set my schedule early and from there I could purchase a ticket early.

My travel buddy and I are looking out constantly for seat sales, and then plan our trip. We have a goal to visit at least every part of our country, then our neighboring Asian countries, then somewhere else. Thanks for your response.

Hello anne25penn, it was fun by flight. I still can recall the very first time I bought the air ticket and enjoyed my trip to a nearby island. You don't have to hide anything because it is you. You can just express it out, if you wanted to. LOL! Nice discussion...hApPy mYlotTiNg!

Yes, we are all very excited for the first time. I believe you will have more to come. My first flight was a domestic flight from Kuala Lumpur to Penang to attend my second brother's wedding. Since then I have been traveling a lot. Some are quite tiring like the one to USA which takes more than 20 hours with transit. However, thinking of the fun and the excitments of holiday, everything is worth it!

I never travel so far that would need a plane, my brother have experience domestic and international flights. I am really scared to imagine riding a plane. Would you feel it very different or it's like riding a bus only?

Congratulations on your first plane ride experience. I use to travel by land when I am visiting places here in our country but It would be very fun I believe to consider a plane travel, that would be a different experience.
