I have been here for about two weeks and I have noticed the pointless posts - have you?
When I say pointless posts, I do not mean stuff that may only interest a few. I am referring to some of the nonsense postings. I will not name any in particular, but let me give you a made up example.
MY TOES ITCH - What kind of posting is that and what relevance does it play?
Ironically, some will say that this post is pointless.

I am sorry to say that this is a pointless post. You have not discussed any new point and are simply making a hue and cry to get more responses.
The discussion on itch is relevant for diabetic people. there are medicines and ways for curing itching.
good day.

hi ravi I was just thinking of the professor here and his wife. like me they are both diabetics but they are so bothered with that awful itching in the feet. I lucked out as I lost a lot of weight when I was first diagnosed and the itching in my feet stopped. but for them there are some new medications coming out that will help. You know i am slow t o make discussions about some discussions being inane or silly or any other mean word as I feel like most of us are really trying and mylot is made up of people from all over the world. A lot of people have English as a second language and are working hard at learning English here. I will give them a lot of slack as I could not learn their language as quickly as some are learning ours.I have noticed a lot of people who criticize others discussions also never make any themselves. My grandpa used to sa y when I was fussing about how someone did do something wrong ,"child then you show them the right way and if you cannot do that then drop it.put up or shut up." He w as right really as we can tear people to pieces about the kind of discussions they make and yet if we do not give good examples we need to shut up.As he said either put up or shut up.

LOL, well it is the post that counts. I choose where I want to comment. If I have no idea of if I will just leave. Sometimes, I will open read. If it does not interest me, I will just go back to look for another posts to open. If it does i will answer and share what I know. :) Good observation too

Yes. as you rightly say it is our right to respond or not respond. if we take a discussion as meaningless or pointless it is good to stay away from it.

thanks for agreeing with me, Ravisivan and Ungu. Somehow I hope that my posts, comments and responses were not pointless. But who knows, a topic so good for you may be a pointless one to others, or a pointless topic to you maybe a good topic for anyone.

Hi Robs! I have not seen that post about MY TOES ITCH so I can't say whether it is really pointless or not. Maybe the owner of that topic has a problem with his toes and he only wants to get the opinions of members here who might have had the same condition. If it is just to tell everyone that his toes itch, then that indeed is pointless.

I made up the post "MY TOES ITCH" - This was so I didn't offend the person who wrote one of the pointless posts

Maybe it was just a title and the content maybe relevant in some aspect. If we find some discussion not as interesting as what we expect, maybe we just avoid those discussion.
Have a nice day!

Of course not Maria - I suspect that some of our posters are missing my point. I would say 99% of posts have merit and interest, but there is a very small minority that are clearly gibberish

You need to read and see the context first before concluding that a post is pointless. There were certain topics that may be irrelevant on you point of view but may turn out helpful for other people. But I agree that some people are treating mylot as their 2nd twitter or facebook account. The admin seems to check the site on regular basis and I saw some of those post were deleted eventually.

You are so right! There are so many discussions about things there would not be an answer to....ok your toes itch! What can I answer to that? I've noticed that they are mostly from new members who don't really understand the point of mylot. It's to discuss and I don't have an answer to your toes itching...scratch them...lol...

Lol that is funny , I would just laugh when I see such post because I know there is no sense to it . I have seen people making post like facebook status but I dont mind because I understand people can just run out of things to say ,,, you know whatever floats their boat .

I hear you Rob. And I agree. There are many of those posts here. But it seems to make them happy. I think I know a few you are referring to. I have been here a few years so I have seen my share of them. But sometimes I even respond to some of those pointless posts. I figure, to each his own.

I think we all have different opinions and all of our thoughts matter and are important...to someone out there. If it is a discussion against the guidelines it will be deleted, not for us to worry about then...

Most of the members here is to make money. That is the main reason they are posting discussions like me. Some posts might be pointless to some one, but will be worth to some other person. As a mylot member no one won't force you to take part in discussions. You will always have to freedom to participate in discussion which you likes only. Simply means you can ignore the pointless posts.

I understand that we can't talk about every little things that you are doing in a day. I like constructive discussions. Some of my comments have been deleted more than once because the post that I have respond too had been deleted so how long you thing it'll take get to your payout.

Well, maybe for some, this kind of post may be pointless or irrelevant but for others, this might be fun to make comments and exchange ideas why and how that could happen. This post might be a way of discovering something bright ideas for other related post. We don't know. However, we must considerate!

Yes there has been quite a few of those type of discussions, it is because some members are desperate to create discussions but have nothing in mind. I see no point in doing this at all because they are unlikely to attract any attention and constitute a waste of the poster's time.
This was far more prolific in the early days, with garbage such as "do you have internet" or "What did you have for breakfast" and so on.
I posted a few discussions recently because I considered the topics worthwhile, but my next discussion may be tomorrow or in several months time depending on what I have to offer. If nothing occurs then I am quite content to respond to others.

I think the whole point here is it may be pointless to you but it may not be pointless to somebody else.
Let's respect these discussions and the ones who started them for we are each of us different. I myself have seen some discussions here which I felt were relevant to me but put down by others and even deleted by the administration.

hi robspealman hi yes I have seen them and bypassed them. they will soon be deleted anyway. Also in a large group like this we cannot possibly please
everybody no matter how good we think our discussions are. also one persons
pointless discussion is often someone elses treasured discussion, "who knows.
Rather tban agonize over what you feel are pointless discussions go on to someone else's discussion. In a way it is as those who think pointless will not be deterred by us but by mylot admins. if they feel its a pointless discussion they will
axe it.

i dont think you understand people's feeling at all, these sites actually help people to get rid of loneliness,i mean suppose you are alone and you dont have anybody to share your feeling on a particular day,you share like feeling alone ,to you it make be pointless, but if someone replied back to you and help you in getting rid of loneliness,it means alot..
